Yesterday was my last day of school, and I asked my APUSH teacher if she would write my formal recommendation. She told me to give her a copy of the common app so she can fill it out and photocopy it, and also a stack of envelopes addressed to the colleges I'm applying to.

I'm only a junior and my list is far from set in stone. I'm only going to see her one more time before September, and I don't have a way to contact her, so I need to figure this out before I see her on Friday. First of all, what am I supposed to be printing out for her? The common app website has the teacher recommendation form for "2009-2010 Teacher Evaluation for Spring 2010 or Fall 2010 Enrollment", is that what I should be giving to her if I'll be a senior this coming year? If not, then what?

About the envelopes; what is the best way to go about this? I definitely don't have my absolute list, but I'm assuming I'll have it by fall. Should I give her the envelopes for the schools I know for a fact I'm applying to, or just wait to give them all at once? It doesn't make any sense to me, won't she not even be sending them out until at least fall? I'm so lost. What is the standard procedure?

Thank you soo much to anyone who can help!

At this point, there is nothing you can print out for her. What you have to print out for her, in August when it is available, is the teacher recommendation form from the common application (if you are applying to a common app school. If not, you have to use the form specific to the college). Once you sign up for a common app account when it is available, the link to downloading the form should be very visible.

I believe that is the old form from last year. Wait until the new one comes out. If you want, you can certainly bring a copy of the old one with you when you go explain the situation to her, so that she’ll have an idea of what she’ll have to fill out later.

Give her the envelopes later when you decide where you want to apply.

That is correct. Early action/decision is usually due around Nov 1st, while regular action is due usually on January first. You may want to send in application early for rolling admission schools, however.

Hope that helped :).

Thank you, that definitely helped! Some kid handed her a whole stack of envelopes already; I have no clue how he knows where he’s applying, or what app he gave her. I won’t be seeing her over the summer, so I guess she’ll need to fill it out online in August? This is SO confusing, haha.

She can fill out the forms in September after school starts. It’s just this one form that she’ll be filling out and forwarding to many schools, so it shouldn’t take that long. It’s the recommendation letter itself that can be time consuming, and that she can write without the common app forms.
