I pretty much just came here because I wanted to apply early somewhere and on paper it was perfect, even though there were other places I liked better and now I'm paying for it. There isn't a whole lot of community feel/school spirit here (you don't get the sense that people really give a crap about learning, they just want to have fun and get out and make a lot of money and the school kind of encourages that). I play a sport but I don't really get along with the team (I wasn't recruited so it's been kind of rough, I feel like I'm 'butting in' on an already existing dynamic, even just with the other first-years who were recruited) or agree with the way the coach runs the program (pretty much only focuses on three or so top players and getting good recruits, and throws everyone else by the wayside), it's a bummer because my sport is really important to me and not enjoying myself with it is having a huge negative effect on me. Also, maybe most importantly, I'd really like to be closer to home because my family is the most important thing to me and I want to be closer to them.

I'm planning to apply to Amherst (top choice right now), Tufts, Brown, Yale, Conn College, and possibly Harvard but I'm not sure about that one yet. Sports-wise I likely wouldn't play at the Ivies but I want to handle the possibility that I'd be done after this season (I have a really complicated love-hate relationship and have thought about quitting a couple times, probably the main reason I didn't try to go Ivy after HS was that I wanted to be able to play - quitting doesn't seem likely but like I said I just want to cover all my bases)

Any thoughts? I really appreciate anybody's help! Thank you!

bump? anybody, please?

hey, well i’m in the same boat as u. im at a top 20 national university and a freshman. my projected gpa is 3.7ish. i’m also looking to transfer (not to the schools u listed though). from what i can say, i’ve heard that 3.7 is the “magic number” that allows you to be considered. don’t know what this means really. it looks like your stats are good though! and you’re coming from a top-5 lac, which can only help you!

you don’t get the sense that people really give a crap about learning, they just want to have fun and get out and make a lot of money and the school kind of encourages that

^^ i feel the same way at my school!!

I am also going to apply to BC I think
Please, does anybody have any advice? I’d really appreciate it!

Several of the colleges you list have very few openings for transfers. Look over the transfer admissions statistics and make sure to have a couple of schools on your list that are transfer-friendly.

Since Amherst is another top-5 LAC, I’m not sure you would find the atmosphere much different there, though you could meet people from the other schools in the consortium. I suspect that a university might suit you better. There’s a niche for everyone if the school is large enough.
