I was reading through all the posts about transferring to Columbia and figured it would be easier to just write my own.

I'm 28 years old and I work full-time as an editor at an e-learning company. I graduated from Emerson College in Boston 7 years ago with a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing. After some soul searching over the past few years (to make a really long story short) I've decided to pursue Biomedical Engineering. I currently live in Rochester, NY, so I am applying to the University of Rochester's BME program, but I'd really love to go to Columbia. The BME program there looks outstanding, and I've always wanted to live in NYC (as expensive as it is). Last semester I took a couple of math courses at the local community college, just as a refresher, and got A's. I'm now taking Chemistry and Calculus, and will most likely get A's in those classes as well (not to sound snotty---just being realistic). I have the talent and determination to succed in BME, I'm just not sure what my chances are of getting into Columbia.

I did very well in high school (over 10 years ago)--I graduated with a weighted GPA well over 4.0, took all Honors- and Regents-level classes, and did fairly well on my SATs (though I can't for the life of me remember what I got). But I'm sure those things won't matter as much, since I've been out in the "real world" for so long.

I'm probably making no sense and just rambling, but any advice would be helpful. Thanks!
