New York University- slight reach
Elon University- dont know
George Mason University- dont know
University of Michigan- reach
William and Mary- reach
University of Pittsburgh- dont know

Your ecs are great but your gpa and sats are low

Thanks for the reply. I know the GPA is low, but do you think the SAT is really that low?

Thanks,
Everyone's favorite vegetable

By the way- I should add, I took the 10/8 SAT1 in hopes I can up the SAT beyond 2200+

George Mason/Accepted
Elon/Accepted
William and Mary/Rejected

you're sats are not that low but they are too low for Univ Mich and William and Mary. Actually its the gpa that will hit you but the sats don't help.

The thing is Asparagus, most schools are GPA and SAT driven, especially selective schools, because they can be. But don't let that deter you from going after what you want. You have a decent GPA and decent SAT's. Your EC's are very good. I'm sure you are an outstanding person with a great future ahead of you. Let's face it, a good high school GPA and SAT scores will only get you so far in life.
Spend a year at George Mason doing your best and then transfer to a college that more fits your "dream school". This is all entirely possible. In fact, you may wind up really liking George Mason. Best of luck to you.

Yeah... I do like George Mason. My concern with it though is the reputation its been getting recently. It's still recovering from it's days as a commuter school (even though when it was, it was a branch of UVA).

The positive thing about George Mason is that I was accepted on to their forensics team already... so I guess it's a reason to be there... That said, I like Elon better...

My hope is that if I get into one of the really hard 3 that I'm applying to, be it Mich, WM or NYU, I can look at one of those closer and see what makes sense-- to go to one of those three or to suck it up for undergrad and keep with one of my bottom 3.

That said- I like all 6 schools I applied to... don't get me wrong!!

Thanks for the continued advice
Spargo

How did you end up doing all that airline stuff? I find it really interesting...

I wanted to add... I have one or two more questions about WM..

If the SAT was boosted sufficiently from the 10/8 scores (available on 10/24), do you think that would help? They advertise their 25-75% scores are 1250 to 1440 (on the old scale)

Also, WM is 66% in-state and 34% out of state. Is this by choice? Or do they take more in-state for one reason... what does this statistic mean for out of state students? Is there a specific reason for the big difference?

Lastly, my friend who goes to WM said he knows a lot of people there with similar stats to mine and that WM loves LOVES leadership potential. He said they also like to see you taking advantage of campus visits and stuff. So, since my friend is a overnight host, I'm staying with him on an overnight visit that is sponsored by WM. Also, I think I have pretty solid leadership credentials.

I'm confused about WM... I know the GPA is low... but are they so driven by just GPA and SAT that I'm definitately out, or is there a slim possibility yet?

Thanks

B to the ump

:)

Hmm.. It seems as if nobody really has commented on Pittsburgh... anyone know more about that?

Also, if anyone has any ideas about my WM dilemmas/questions/concerns..

Thanks a bunch,
Jolly green stringy veggie

You should probably be ok at Pitt...

I got in 6 years ago (there standards have increased dramatically since!) with 2.91 (UW mostly CP, few Honors classes, no AP, big upward trend) and 1120 SAT (old of course!) I don't remember how strong my essays were, but my writing skills have improved about 100 fold since high school or even who I got my letters of rec. from...

What do you want to major in and why did you choose Pittsburgh as one of your schools? Just curious...I'm an alum. and had a great experience there.

Pitt alum. '04
UNC-CH grad student

I've seen the school a lot because my sister goes there and really fell in love with it. It's a great environment, and the buildings seem pretty nice. The business program also seems to be quite thorough-- I'd like to major in Marketing.

Couldn't really explain entirely why I like it so much... I kinda sorta just do hehehe

Thanks for the reply, and keep them coming

Pitt has a good business school...I chose them over Indiana University due to my love for Pitt's campus and city over Bloomington. Even though I didn't end up following through with business, they have good opportunities and good job placement at Pitt through the career center. Also, if you have an interest in one of the arts and science departments you may get a dual degree that is joint CAS/Business with the major of your choice. Let me know if you want to know anything more about Pitt (though your sister is probably more up to date...I graduated in '04).

Thanks for the help... I'll be sure to send questions your way if I can think of any!!

ben

Bump. :)

...sorry, couldn't help it.
