I chose B. elevate the acidity of seawater and how they affect fish… Isn’t the subject carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide?

Among the chairman’s many responsibilities (is the formulation of company policy.)
Answer is A.same
WHY?

The construction of the new pool (was to have been completed last month, but) the long spell of rainy weather has postponed the opening until october.
Answer is A.
I chose D “has been completed last month, but”.

Like is a preposition, thus it is C because it is talking about concentration, which is singular.

Just reverse it, The formulation of company policy is among the chairman’s many responsibilities…it works

A is wrong because of a illogical time relationship. The construction was completed before the postponement, thus the first part should be in a tense that is further in the past than the 2nd part. The perfect continuous infinitive (a mouthful I know) is used to show that the action happened before the main verb. The main verb is was, which is past tense. Thus, the “to have been completed” is further in the past.

Lol I hope my #12 explaination makes sense to you…

6: Oceanographers are studying how the increased atmospheric concentration of gases like carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide(elevates the acidity of seawater and its affecting fish).

Carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide do not elevate the acidity of the water, it it the increased concentration of them that elevates the acidity of the water.

9:Among the chairman’s many responsibilities (is the formulation of company policy.)

The chairman has many responsibilities, but only one of them is listed here. If there were more, it would read like this: “Among the chairman’s many responsibilities are the formulation of company policy and the monitoring of fiscal responsibilities.”

12: The construction of the new pool (was to have been completed last month, but) the long spell of rainy weather has postponed the opening until October.

The pool isn’t actually constructed, which is what the second half of the sentence is describing. Since the pool hasn’t been constructed, but it was planned to be constructed, the sentence should stay the same.

you are wrong, the pool was already constructed…

It has not been indicated in the given information that the pool was complete before the postponement. Because of this reason, it is incorrect to infer that it was already complete.

Unless I missed something, I don’t see where it says that the pool was constructed before the postponement.

yeah gertrude i think oregon may be right cause the answer is indeed A. it just seems awkward sounding to me to say “was to have been completed”

I agree. If they inserted the word “planned” between was and to, it would make complete sense though.

Sorry I meant A, I just said it wasn’t right on my first post…sorry

Ahh…I just realized my mistake…again very sorry for the confusion I caused.

No worries, i doubt the actual ETS sat will have a problem testing this? right?
this was from a diff prep company.

It might be a good idea to stick with BB tests that you know will be an accurate indication of what will be tested. They do, in fact, use a lot of tricky questions where the correct answer choice sounds a little awkward but is correct anyway.

finished the BB… and all qas before 08…
