Yikes- test canceled AFTER we arrived! Has anyone had this happen?

Last night I went through all the normal routines of getting ready for the SAT I- final studying. Going to bed early. Sleeping well. Waking up mentally prepping. Ready to get this June SAT over with! I drove over in a rush, met with people I knew to go in, and sat down preparing. All the last-minute anxiety was setting in, but I was ready to get it out of the way.

Meanwhile, some lights in the hall turn out. The lights in the girls' bathroom had been out and the electric pencil sharpeners hadn't been working, but everything's fine. In other words, the electricity is about half-power, but the rooms are lit fine (except for one small test room, where the stuents had been relocated long before testing was due to begin). There are about 500 people at the test center and about 175 in my room. An electrician is called to fix the lights that are out- and shortly after he arrives, all of the lights go out (we think they switched them off to work on the other ones).

We have been waiting for 55 minutes at this point, staring at the clock. Then one of the proctors from my rooms calls for silence and goes, "You guys, I am very, VERY sorry, but we need to send you all home. This is College Board's decision, not (test centre's). A letter is being sent to all of your home addresses TODAY about re-scheduling later this month."

Oh. My. Gosh. I was NOT happy. I had been prepping for this SAT with a prep course, and timed it so that I would end exactly yesturday, getting all the review I can until right before the test. I've been doing INSANE prep course hours to get in the course before the June SAT, running myself into the ground. Graduation is next weekend (as a junior I'm required to attend) and next weekend is the last weekend before exams start, so it's review weekend. After that, I'll be taking the SAT after I'm out of school for the summer and mentally EXHAUSTED from a week of exams.

A friend in a different test room had a proctor tell her that they would be e-mailing us as well, but we weren't told that in the main room and haven't gotten e-mails (the proctor emphasized that notice would be going out today). Has anyone had this happen? When did you get the letter telling you about re-scheduling, and when was it re-scheduled for? Any way, my schedule is TERRIBLE for the next two weekends with exams. I am sooo frustrated. Yikes!

I've never heard of this happening. I guess you were just unlucky. Or you may be lucky? If you think about it, you get extra time to study. That's a major plus to me. Trust me, you won't forget most of the material in a few weeks.

As for exhaustion, seriously, you cant be that exhausted after a week of exams. Just think of this as a chance to score higher than you would have.

Call the Collegeboard, ASAP.

The CB is closed on weekends, so I plan to give them a call tomorrow.

Anyone had this happen, or know anyone it's happened to?

ye that sucks...oh well at least you werent in the middle of taking it and then it got cancelled. It would be even worse if you knew you were doing well, and someone took that away from you

Hmm ..

I wonder if it will be the same test.

haha i HIGHLY doubt that. That would be easy 2400's for anyone who knew aobut this site

Well, the plot thickens. As I posted, it was emphasized that letters would be going out ON Saturday with the new date. I called this afternoon and they literally have not even set a date range for the make-up. I was told it's "usually" the same month and a not-so-kind suprivsor, after being generally unhelpful in every way, proceeded to advise that I "could take the October test." Thanks, buddy. Now, if this was May and he told me to take the June test, I would be far less angry. To suggest that I have until the end of October to have my next set of scores infuriated me. I informed him that, no, actually, I could not "just take the October test." There's a thing called EA I, and some people need test scores in by October. While some people might have until October for EA test scores, only one of my six schools will take an EA test score from October.

He then confirmed that they would in fact be sending the notification by snail mail. In other words, he enlightened me, I might have about a two day warning.

Still no word; it still hasn't been re-scheduled. This is getting ridiculous.
