Are you a URM? What is your approximate class rank/percentile? Is a 3.4 low, or decent for your school? The GPA alone may prevent you from getting into some of your top choices.
U-mich - Safety
NYU- Low match
Harvard - Reach
Wisconsin - Safety
Florida - Safety
Rice - High match/Low reach
Wash in St. Louis - Match/High Match
@safaroth2 The University of Michigan is NOT a safety. A 3.4 is really low for an OOS student, where the acceptance rate is near 20%. It’d be a reach to high reach.
@safaroth2 UMich is not a safety for anyone from OOS as the admission rate is 20%. GPA 3.4 almost guarrantees a rejection unless you have a very strong class rank and school profile report. UMich is no short of high stst applicants.
@BabylonBabylon IMO, his test scores are well above average for that school, and his ECs will really separate him from most of the other students applying there. I am not very familiar with that school (or Florida) so I’m probably wrong. Maybe it is a match/high match?
@safaroth2 Check out UMich’s CDS, they consider GPA and course rigor to be very important while test scores are just important. GPA 3.4 is way below average or even the 25th percentile while ACT 36 is only a couple points above the 75th percentile. 21% of the enrolled freshmen last year have GPA 4.0. OP’s GPA really separate him from 90+% of applicants applying there but not ACT 36 considering the mid 50 to be 30-34. More important, having the stat does not mean high admission chance due to low admission rate. OOS students applying to UMich these days are as tough as applying to some Ivies not many years ago. I have never heard of any Ivies to be safety for anyone in the last decade. Note that ACT 36 is also above the admission average of any school.
