Hi everyone! First-time poster, long-time reader.
I wanted to get some thoughts re: York College of PA. My daughter has been accepted to this school’s premedical scholars program, which doesn’t necessarily guarantee admissions to med school at this point (Penn State Med School in Hershey), but is pretty close. She would have to maintain certain GPA, take minimum number of math and science classes, then interview with the Health Professionals Committee in her sophomore year. They then would recommend her for an interview with the Acceptance Committee with Penn State med school and, if all turns out well, she could be accepted to that med school before she starts junior year of college. She also got a really good scholarship from York, so she is seriously considering that school.
My question / concern is - we don’t know much about the school and especially this program. There doesn’t seem to be any info about this program online, aside from what the school has published. I’m also wary of sending her to what seems to be a local, commuter-like school, where most of the students are from nearby locales. The graduation rate of 40 percent is also a bit troublesome to me.
My daughter has also been accepted to Tulane (early decision; no merit so it’s not in contention any longer), Virginia Tech (in-state), as well as Case Western Reserve. She actually got a pretty decent scholarship to CWR, which we were very surprised with and it has piqued her interest that much more in the school. However, the price difference will still be huge when comparing York vs. CWR. She’s still waiting to hear back from a few more schools, including her top choice of Emory (she’s hopeful, but isn’t too high on her chances).
If you have any thoughts on York, would love to hear them! If you have any thoughts on our situation, would love to hear those as well. This is our first child going to college and it’s great that she has these nice options, but also mind-boggling … especially when you consider we have only a few weeks to make this really important decision!
Thanks!
