You + Chance Me = Love

Hiya! I made one of these a few months ago but I'd love to get some different people's opinions. Plus, I know a few more things now. I'm a junior right now attending a rather well-respected public high school and my list of non-safety colleges is currently Columbia, UPenn, UVA, Duke, and perhaps a top LAC like Amherst. Are these too high of a reach?

GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.17 W
Rank: 6 out of about 450 (although this may have changed for the better; they just recalculated everything)
PSAT: 201
---I'm taking the SAT March 12 and expect to raise this a bit.

APs (10): World History (5), European History, US History, Psychology, English: Lang, English: Lit, Calc BC, Biology, French, and Government. (I anticipate mostly 5s and some 4s, although who knows with Calc!)

ECs:
-Vice President of Drama Club
-A LOT of time spent working on drama productions (on and off stage)
-Wrote a play that performed at a competition, earning one of the actors an award. We are also performing it at our public library soon. My drama teacher is helping me try to get it published.
-ITS member
-NHS member (I'm hoping to be elected as an officer next year)
-French Club member (also hope to be an officer in this next year)
-Academic Team member

Various honors: Outstanding French II and III, Drama II, and Honors Biology student. Outstanding sophomore female of the year.

Oh, and just to add, I'm getting a job this summer and can write a pretty mean essay. I'm also enthusiastic about all of the clubs that I'm in and haven't joined any just to look good.

Hope I gave all the right info! Thanks so much!

Oh! I forgot about Cornell!

Speaking of Cornell, I also have another question…my grandfather went there years ago, however, he never graduated because he went to fight in WWII. Would I still be considered a legacy? Would I even be a legacy in the first place?

Thanks again!

I hope it’s not too early to do this but…bump!

Those are hard schools for everyone to get into, espeically Penn and Columbia. I think you stand a chance, as a member of the theater club at my school I know what all of your achievements mean. You are probably a legacy at Cornell. Your standardized tests will be important for those schools so don’t sleep during the SAT! Other than that, good luck and keep up the good work.

Thank you very much, Mr. mrcool!

No problem, keep it up!

If you convey your interest in drama well, then I think you’ll have a shot at some of these schools but otherwise many may be too difficult to get in to.

Work on your SATs and you may have a shot.

You are NOT a legacy at Cornell. Your mother or father had to have gone there in order for you to be a legacy.

For those of you saying that it is/isn’t a legacy, I would like to see some actual data backing up your claims. I’m just personally really curious about this matter. In my own logic, I feel that it would be a legacy. And there’s that additional respect of leaving college in order to defend your college.
