So im looking at a college application and one of the majors is Architecture. Under the Major it says "Admission to the professional phase, which occurs at the end of the first year, is competitive." So im wondering if you dont get into the professional phase what do you do from there?

I’m gonna hazard a guess and say that you’re looking at UMD’s application? I know Architecture is one of our LEP/impacted majors that you have to apply for.

I am in a similar situation, only I’m already enrolled at my uni. If you wanna major in business you have to take a bunch of prerequisites and then apply. If you don’t get in, well, that’s the end of the line for that major. My advisor last year recommended I have a back-up major just in case. I chose criminology & criminal justice since we’ve got a good program for it, and I’ve been taking courses in it alongside my business and gen ed courses.

So yeah, you’ll probably want to have a back-up. I know a lot of people who don’t get into business go into economics, surely there is some similar phenomenon for architecture.

I’m also in a similar situation. I want to major in Business, but I don’t have a high enough GPA for it, it is an impacted major, you have to take pre-major courses before being admitted into the program and fill out a supplemental application. I’m just short of what the cut-off gpa was for this fall and it’s only going to be harder to get in by the time I’m eligible to apply for the major.

I have a back up major, economics, since that is not in the school of business but has some related concepts although not really the same thing.

Just have a back up major ready because it pretty much is the end of the line for that major if you don’t get admitted to it.

You pretty much have to have a back up major, like everyone said. Or, you could try to transfer to another school that would let you in.
