how many ?'s on each section do you need to get right to get 800? what about 790?

Depends on the curve for each test. I think you generally need to get all the math questions right to get an 800. Sometimes you might be able to miss one on Critical reading and still get an 800. For writing you don't need a perfect score on both the essay and the multiple choice, so you could get a perfect essay score and miss a couple on the multiple choice or vice-versa. Someone might have more specific info, but it does change from test to test.

I got 1 wrong on dec curve and got 800 for CR, not sure about the others...

The closest curse usually for a 2400 is: 2 wrong Cr, 1 wrong Math, 0 wrong Writing with a 9 essay. If it's harsh, then 0 wrong on Math.

What would be the curve for a 12 essay - as in how many questions could you miss on the multiple choice?

Probably 3-4? I got 2 questions wrong on the December SAT with an 11 essay and still got an 800.

i still havent gotten my scores back from the december SAT, has everyone else?

Check online...if you are talking about the mailed scores, yes I recieved them about 3 days ago.

i know one guy that missed one in CR and got 780 in oct.

Really? Just one? That seems way too harsh. Did he omit any?

I missed two in Critical Reading and got an 800 in October. No omits.

I got one wrong on CR in January and October (makeup test, though) 2006. 800 both times.

1 wrong on Math was a 770 for me once, though.
