You got in! Now whatta ya gonna do?

Assuredly there were tears of joy and perhaps some of grave disappointment this past week, or even longer. But let's assume, you got into Middlebury... along with some others. Decision time is looming! What are you thinking? Are you going to Midd and have already sent in your deposit? Or does your heart belong elsewhere? Who are you passing up to go to Midd, if that decision is made? And if not, what schools are you wrestling between to make a decision? Do friends offer unsolicited advice about what you should do?

I am sure if Middlebury is on your list of acceptances, you probably got into some other great schools or this was your #1 and only one. But I don't want this to evolve into a comparative thread where it becomes "my school's bigger than your school." The point being, no "What are you thinking going there??" :) Fair enough? :)

I want nothing more than to attend Middlebury. It's been my dream school for well over a year and I am absolutely thrilled about my spot. Sure, I've gotten into some really first-class colleges, but they all pale before Midd (in my eyes at least). My best friend is already fairly sure that he'll go, and I am positively dying to follow him.

That won't happen, though, unless I can get the financial aid office to come through for me. I am tantalizingly close to the dream and if it escapes me now -- well, I'll be disappointed. I hate money.

Modadunn -

We didn't expect that our son (Class of 2012) would end up at Middlebury. It was not one of his favorites at the time he applied.

When his favorites didn't materialize (you know how capricious the college application process is), we decided upon Middlebury. We looked at it for the first time only after he was accepted. My wife and son were immediately impressed with the people (administration and students) and the physical facilities. Unlike at a lot of schools, people there were very nice, engaging, and forthcoming.

As he finishes his first year, we can say that he has been very happy there. The academic experience has been very good (harder second semester than first) and he has made a lot of friends. If your son is interested in studying abroad (as ours is), there aren't very many better choices.

The only negative (for us) is that we're from the DC area and it's a heckuva drive to get to and fro Middlebury. But the Burlington airport is pretty close so it's pretty easy to get there by air.

So while I don't know your son, I'd guess that he would be very happy at Middlebury.
