Northeastern has a massive applicant pool. Last year over 27,000 people applied for the 2800 seats in the frosh class. Over 6500 applied EA. Based on the sheer volume of apps, the admissions committee can afford to be picky. They really want people who "show interest" in the univeristy.

That was kinda misleading. You have to take into account their yield rate, which is probably very low since their admissions rate was 47% last year.

By "last year", I am referring to the last admissions cycle (i.e. 2006). The admit rate was 44%. But the number of people applying to Northeastern has nearly doubled in five years. If the current trend continues, Northeastern should get more than 30,000 apps this year. NYU still leads the pack though in the number of apps received by a private university.

If it wasn't for BU then Northeastern would have a much better yield. BU is like a more "advanced" Northeastern. Northeastern has great programs (the internship/co-op especially) and is a great school, but it is having trouble keeping up in college town usa with schools similar to it such as BU. But it's alright, Northeastern is still holding its own in my eyes.
