You guessed it.. FAFSA questions! (Simple ones)

Alright, so I submitted my FAFSA today.. but I have some questions because I need to correct it after my mom files her 2008 tax returns.
I am a high school senior, by the way

I have already gotten two scholarships to use sometime during my college years. Do these go anywhere on the FAFSA? (I didn't put them on there..)
My parents are divorced, but live together (yea, that's been fun to put on applications). So, I put only my mom as my parent with regards to the FAFSA. However, I THINK that my father receives money for me through a VA pension. I don't receive the money, but it does go into the costs of the house that I live in. Should I claim that money as money paid for bills or whatever that line is?
And, finally.. I got a gift of about ~1000 this summer. I have 250 left in my bank account. Do I put 1000 in untaxable income and 250 in my account line, or do I put 750 in untaxable?

Thanks so much :)

assuming you don't have the scholarship money in hand YET, you don't put them on the FAFSA. I believe that you would only enter the 250 in your bank account. (it doesn't count as untaxable income per the IRS, assuming it was a gift from a relative, etc.)

Others may correct me....I'm just guessing. I don't know about the VA pension. Since you are using the money from your mom, I believe the VA pension would only go under income (untaxable, probably) for your dad....

Thanks for your help. I received 1000 from an employer as a gift as an alternative to a check.. long story, has to do with my dad's VA pension. I might just call the college's FA office.

Can you please explain further.... my mom and dad are divorced but live together. For FAFSA, do I mark them as Married or Divorced? They file their taxes separately so it's hard to put the right figures in for both. My mom is the primary financial provider, so should I just use hers? Thanks for any help you all can provide.

Where they live is not the question. If they are legally divorced you put divorced.

And if they live together, you obviously do not live with one more than the other ... so you use the income/asset info from the one who makes more money.

No scholarships on FAFSA - unless they already gave you the money & it's in your bank account as of the day you file the FAFSA.

If you don't use your dad's financial info (it sounds like you are using mom's), you don't report the veteran's benefits he gets. I you use his financial info instead of mom's, you would report those benefits under other untaxed income (if they are not reported on his tax form).
