Hey guys, I've refined my list of schools to transfer to based on your critiques of my previous lists. Anyway, I believe this is the end all be all of the schools i'm going to try to gain admission to. Do I have a decent amount of reach/semi-reach schools here? I know that sounds awkward, but I really am happy at my current university and I just want to shoot for the stars (Begin melodramatic Grey's Anatomy music). Furthermore, I just wanted to thank you guys for giving me so much insight to the transfer application process, and for being very honest individuals.

So, Once again, here are my stats

H.S G.P.A- 3.8
H.S ACT- 29 (Can probably bring up to 32-33)
H.S Extracurriculars- Lots of chuch involvment, few sports, few missions trips

College G.P.A- 3.9
College Extracurriculars

RA'ing
Community Council member
President of Grand Valley Students for a Peaceful Africa
Co-Captain of relay for life team
Captain of intramural volleyball team
Volunteer at nursing home
Volunteer tutoring children at local elementary

Heres the list of schools i plan on applying to

Your HS extracurriculars are largely irrelevant; transfer adcoms will focus MORE on what you do your first semester in college. They will, however, take your low ACT score into account. And that, unfortunately, works against you. A 3.9 at a bottom tier school will also not sway you either way (all the competitive CC kids applying for an Ivy/top tier transfer will have 4.0 GPAs). Personally, I think you are applying to way too many high caliber schools. You should try looking at other solid schools like UIUC, UCSD, BU - all of them are strong in the sciences (I'm assuming you're pre-med). Good luck with whatever you decide to do, though.

How many creds do you have under that 3.9? What classes? Rising Fresh or soph? What major/school within those uni's do you want to apply to? More details.

openingdoors was correct for the most part. Ivy's are looking for solid 4.0s esp if you're applying for econ or a similar difficult-to-get-into major.

Recs need to be top notch. Some of those schools interview. Need an excellent reason for wanting to leave. Don't waste time and retake those ACTs asap if you think you can really higher it to a 33. Focus more on college ecs as opposed to hs ecs unless they're strong exec board leadership roles.

You're applying to quite a few schools so if you're aiming for fall 08 admissions, deadline is near/before March 15th for a majority so I'd start writing now.

Jay1020,
Currently I am a biomedical science major and I am a sophomore. So, I will have somewhere around 60 credits completed once I transfer as a junior. Also, I will want to transfer to the school withing the university that has something along the lines of a biomedical science major/ and a pre-medical advisory staff. I'm not a solid 4.0 student, but I should have around a 3.94 if I calculated that correctly. Also, what schools interview from your knowledge?? All of those ecs that I posted were college ecs.

Your 3.94 is very impressive. Don't think that every successful Ivy transfer has a 4.0, because it simply isn't true. Have great recommendations and essays and your application will be pretty strong. (Minus your ACTs, which need to be brought up!)
