You just received your LAST(3rd) SAT exam and you ended up with a score of around 1800's. You are frustrated and even heart-broken that despite having devoted so much time studying this exam, this was the best you could do. But you manage to pull yourself together and tell yourself that "the SAT is only one part of your college app and there are others i could improve on."

So, what are some of the other things you can do to compensate the BAD SAT score?
Is it High school grade?
Is it Activities?
Is it Essays?

There’s around 2-3 month left before your apps are handed in. Theres gotta be something you could try and do so that your chances become more solid. I’m pondering on taking the ACT exam in decemeber?

If you are able to take the ACT in the time you have, might as well…it can’t hurt.

Otherwise, I’d say the essay is the biggest thing you need to focus on. IMO, a lot of these colleges get applicants with virtually the same GPA, SAT scores, ECs, etc. but it’s the essay that truly makes an applicant stand out.

Well, it’s too late to bump up your activities (they can tell when you’re just throwing it in there to make your app look good), and GPA takes a long time to change, so you don’t have time to make a big dent there. (Although you should still try to get the best grades you can.)

Make your essays brilliant. Make them personal and powerful, and they’ll notice!
