So, I'm applying to JHU next year, and I just wanted to know if I have any shot? I'll sum up my stats quickly:
Gen/Race: Male/White
GPA UW: Frosh: 3.78, Soph: 3.3 (external circumstances), Junior: 3.7, Total: 3.6
GPA W: 4.0+ (I'm not told)
SATs: (i retook in march and think I did better, but): CR: 690, M: 700, W:750
SAT IIs: None taken, Will take: Math II, Lit, Spanish, US History, maybe Bio
Extracurrics:
Captain Tennis
Captain Academic decathalon
Math Team
NHS
Courseload: Hardest Possible (3 AP Limit, None offered Soph or Frosh year, 3 APs Jun and Senior year)
Class rank: Top 10% (only given decile)
There are other things, but this sums up the essentials. Recs and Essays should be good.

3 Questions:
1) Do I have a chance?
2) Will applying ED give me a significantly better chance?
3) I want to go pre-med, but would applying as a math major be smarter than applying as a Bio of Chem major?

I’ll say this to about anyone… Anyone has a chance of getting accepted, waitlisted, or rejected.

I did not make the best scores or have the best currics… But they gave me a Bloomberg Scholarship! I was really crazy happy. I believe I’m going. Matter-of-fact, as I write this, unless some other college gives… Nope… Not even that… I’m going to JHU

And if you’re a Junior this year with those kind of stats, then I believe you’re a better candidate than I am. Still, I’ve seen people with phenomenal ‘Stats’ that didn’t get in, but I do believe that essays play a huge role… No one here knows for sure how their essays looked to others (and everyone is either their worst or best critic, I believe, so it doesn’t help to ‘grade’ your own essays) so, make the essays ‘yours’ ya’ know? Dream big and show it off. I’ll be back next year to see how ya’ do, dreamsofivy.

Hey thanks so much! And super-duper-congrats on getting into JHU! That’s amazing. And you should totally go if you not only got in, but you got a scholarship too! That’s freaking amazing!

when he put “bump” he was just bumping his topic so it would show up on the latest posts thing again and more people would see it and hopefully respond.

you have a good chance at getting in but pre-med is pretty tough. all you may need to do is increase your SAT score, which you already retook and hopefully you reach your goal. Like Shinashi, really anyone could get accepted/waitlisted/deferred/rejected or whatever, so just try your best. Good luck!

Yeah I know it took me about six weeks to figure out what bump meant lol. And about the whole super-duper thing…I don’t even know…I must have been on a sugar high or something because I’ve never said that in my life…
Anyway, thanks for the help.

I went there for a summer program, expecting all the RAs to be INSANELY intellectual and focused and, honestly, kind of nerdy. But they were all really unique and way more quirky than I thought they’d be, coming from a school like Hopkins. Their tip for me was to be myself and showcase that in every medium possible.

p.s. several of them used the phrase super-duper. :P

■■■■■ at "they dont accept kids that say super duper…sorry "

I think you have a decent chance,
but don’t whine to them about the low GPA unless you were working 50 hourse a week and your dad passed away and you got kicked out of your house…etc.
