Ah God, now I KNOW I'm separated from my East Coast bretheren. I constantly get annoyed when my friends walk so slow, and they always tell me to slow down and I'm like "You hurry up!"

I hope you guys realize SoCal is superficial capital of the world. While the weather is nice, you have to worry about wildfires in the fall. Well, only if you live in the suburbs.

Personally, I'd go for compact, dense, intellectual cities with lots of great public transportation over large, spread-out, dense, superficial cities with okay public transportation.

And you can get around LA without a car. I do it all the time. The trains just don't get you everywhere like they do in NY. Like the Westside and Santa Monica, the trains are getting there, they just aren't there now. If you're heading to Downtown LA, Long Beach, Hollywood, Pasadena, Koreatown, Norwalk, or Inglewood you'll be fine though.

I'd say the only plus about living in LA compared to NY: $24 monthly student pass on the Metro (grades 9-12) or a $5 day pass gets you everywhere for free!

Hahaha I don't even know freeway directions. Whenever someone asks me where somewhere is I say "Yeah it's on the corner of this street and that street." I swear I was BORN in NY.

aw Obstinate, i wouldnt say socal is as superficial as people make it out to be. i mean i live in San Diego and many of my friends and even i am pretty geniune. its just a stereotype further proliferated by the movies. Sure there maybe in LA there are more superficial people, but i mean, thats where hollywood is. its to be expected. But everywhere else in socal is pretty much the same as anywhere else in terms of superficiality. And i mean, everyone has their superficial moments. You see what you look for in people.

I grew up in Connecticut and frequently visited New York. Graduated high school in Oregon and now I go to USC. My verdict? Ehhh each place has its ups and downs. Sure Oregon may be hippie center of the world, Connecticut will be as preppy as you can get, and USC may sometimes be the university of spoiled children, but for the most part, people are people wherever you go. Youll find anyone anywhere

... and when I think of East Coast girls, I think of disgustingly tan Jersey Shore/Staten Island girls that have bad highlights, tacky clothing, and more STDs than one can count on two hands.

just sayin'...

But really, LA is amazing, and so is San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle. I loved NY and CT when I visited, but it just didn't compare. West Coast Life I find is a whole lot more fun and laid back. And no, getting around LA is ridiculous without a car (I live on the westside). Thank god all of my close friends drive.

i live in southern california. in general, we go to the beach a lot and smoke weed a lot. we like mexican food but many of the people here hate mexicans. a lot of the people i know are rich, predictable, flashy, superficial teenagers. and parents especially. the ostentatious display of wealth is pretty disgusting, although i know it's not confined to my area.

but there really are all kinds of people here.

in general, to the people i know, the midwest = jesus and east coast = gossip girl and snow. weird stuff.

And Texans are the best. End of convo. We aren't spoiled little pansies like you yuppies on the east coast, and (some of us) aren't permanently attached to a blunt like west coast hippies. Most of our girls are real too.

Gigg, yeppers. Right on 123. The city is Mclean, but the locals call it langley if u live near the high school. Arlington is hella cool, I used to work at pentagon city mall at nordstroms =P. Im telling u, LA is the suck. + ppl here are totally apathetic about everything. If they suck at math, that is it for them, they will not even try to attempt a math course. They have so little self esteem. They think they have to have a 4.0 uw gpa to get into UC irvine. Its amazing. The ppl here think REALLY local. Can u believe SO MANY ppl never have heard for gtown? wowee. But UCSB and UCI are like DREAM schools for 4.0/2100+ers. Soooo local. and pizza here is the WORST. There is this restaurant called shakeys, it is so sick, but it is like a neighborhood institution for the BEST pizza but it really tastes like cardboard with pasteurized cheeeeeeeeze product.

p.s. i think hella is short for hell of a/helluva right? I dont know where I got it from. There are a ton of things that socalers hate hearing =D. Hella is one of them.

Hmm. I live in Norcal.
Yesterday, I was talking to some UCLA alumni who basically love the school. They were all saying how all these Harvard kids they work all, within 10 seconds, brought up into the conversation how they got their degree from Harvard.
Idk, just around here in the west coast, I guess the people I talk to have a bias towards the Ivies as a haven of pretentious, spoiled, white children; the Southern schools as one for hotheaded or bush-y people; the Midwest as, I guess a place where Obama is from, haha.
Hmm, so if you walk fast, you're an easy coast kid? psh. I guess us Cali hippies just take time to enjoy life. (:

Also, the West Coast isn't any worse than the East Coast, and if anything, its better. As a whole, the cities are much less crime ridden and decayed. There are also plenty of non-hippies; that is a stereotype that applies only to San Francisco (and Berkeley), Portland, Seattle, and Eugene. Also, the scenery and geography (not in an environmentalist way) is much nicer. Oregon's air quality isn't matched by many states not on the West Coast.

If we want to play stereotyping without regards to the truth, can I call all Texans football crazed anti-intellectual, backwards ignoramuses?

Ooh I love pentagon city mall! They're like the only place I could find that had dippin dots lol.
I'm not really sure what hella is o.O I do know that us east coasters say helluva/ hell of a though.
I don't see why you guys hate Seattle, it's probably the place with the coolest-looking buildings.
