<p>The commercial is played during Cal football games. </p>
<p>It's pretty good. </p>
<p>In the late '90s/early '00s, Cal had a TV ad that featured an old time animated bear...I liked that ad the best.</p>

<p>even though i'm biased toward cal, i really believe that is one of the best college ads I've ever seen. oregon's "O" ad is pretty effective as well, it reflects the hip atmosphere of the university.</p>
<p>I've seen this a zillion times now including, as Chem says, on t.v. during football games, and even though I'm here, my heart still pounds when I see this and it makes me smile. Broadly.</p>
<p>Then, my dad calls and says why the hell are they advertising a place where they don't exactly have a dirth of applications and need people to apply. Okay, he has a point....</p>

<p>It doesn't matter how many applicants it gets, but how many qualified ones it gets. By qualified, I mean "strong." To be honest, I suspect that a large number of applicants simply aren't particularly qualified -- it's just that checking "Berkeley" on the application is pretty easy.</p>
<p>But yes, your dad does have a point. =p</p>
<p>Cal is in competition for top students all the time. Also, it's more of a brand image/public awareness campaign during football and basketball season. Most major D-1 conference colleges have ads during football and basketball season.</p>
<p>I like the new Pac-10 commercial. I couldn't find a video link for it though.</p>
<p>i used to think our commercial was a little lame-- but then i saw the one for washington (not sure which wash) and i changed my mind. its a couple of internatl students speaking their native african with subtitles talking about how great wash is. pathetic. i dont understand who they-re recruiting with this commercial plAying durung football games.</p>
