You should DEFINITELY consider attending this school.

I was just on the phone with a friend from college who is on the Rugby team. He loves it. He has practices a few times a week and Saturday games. There’s a lot of team bonding between the guys. He also said they got a free tickets for the sneak preview screening of Invictus in the city. (The Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman rugby movie about apartheid in South Africa.)

I’m going out to meet some friends for dinner, but I will post later about Food Study Breaks and the Harper Library/Harper Tutors.

Hey, also one thing: If you have a more specific question, or something you don’t feel comfortable posting on here, please message me. I am happy to answer questions through a message or on facebook if it’s easier.

i just did a google search for the paris institute, and i didn’t find anything…?

are the guys attractive?

Here’s the link you’re looking for: [The University of Chicago Center in Paris](http://centerinparis.uchicago.edu/)

[url=http://centerinparis.uchicago.edu/]The University of Chicago Center in Paris/url

and i’ll answer about guys when i come back. but in short, yes.

hahaha i second that… are guys there attractive?? haha

i have a question… i know chicago has a music department, but it’s not really geared towards piano performance… i’m a pretty serious pianist and would ideally like to continue it… are there like say, private teachers around campus, etc? or maybe even in the department?

also, are dorms nice? haha… i was looking on facebook and the rooms were kinda meh looking, i’m not gonna lie haha… a little bit dismal looking i’d say =P

Ahaha, yes, there are attractive guys here. I’ve generally been able to pick out one in each of my classes. (Arabic, for some odd reason, had a high concentration of attractive guys).

I’m a not so serious pianist, and I know some of the profs give lessons, though I haven’t taken any. They’ve also got some really nice Steinways, and a beautiful Baldwin I absolutely love.

Dorms vary, so if you’re looking for really new and nice ones, obviously South or Max would be the way to go. A lot of the other dorms are older, but have a lot of character/personality. I have friends in Maclean, Broadview, and Breck that I’ve visited, and none of their rooms struck me as being terrible - in general, I think the dorms here are nicer than most colleges (at least my state schools!)

@qwt2: Come live in South. If you’re lucky you’ll get a double with a floor-to-ceiling length window, or one with a view overlooking Chicago.

I am from the east coast, and planning on visiting the campus in the spring. Is there any advice you can give as to getting the best out a visit? I will be flying to chicago I am wondering how to get the best out of my visit. I am fairly certain that UC is my first choice, but unsure as to my chances at getting in. I have the GPA, SATs, extra curriculars, ect. that they are looking for, but what exactly would imply a wow factor for a chicago application?

If you want to know about the dorms, then check out the link I posted earlier in the thread about the new South Campus dorms. I love traditional architecture, but honestly, I wanted a very livable and clean dorm my first year. I think I’m extremely lucky to be living in South Campus. It might be one of the nicest dorms from both the inside and outside across the country. It’s glass windows are beautiful and let in light, not to mention the green energy emphasis throughout the dorm, which I really like. It’s an eco-friendly dorm.

I have yet to meet a friend back home who has had a nicer dorm than I have at the University of Chicago this quarter. I’m serious. It’s definitely led to my enjoyable experience thus far.

I think there’s a facebook group online that has pictures of the dorm.

a really good essay will help you, as will really awesome teacher recommendations. honestly, chicago is becoming more and more random with their selection process like alot of its peer institutions. just have faith in a solid application…and really emphasize why you want to go there in the two paragraphs they ask you about chicago. why is chicago the best experience? speak about your intellectual pursuits, and why you NEED to be in an intellectual environment to thrive.

I agree with ilovepeople: make those two paragraphs SUPER good!!!

I’m a first year. I completely agree with ilovepeople, UC is becoming more competitive, however it still has its own unique feel. Luckily its getting more compeitive and maintaining its unique identity at the same time. I feel like the class of 13 is very vibrant and social. I really like my experiences so far. All of my classes have been rewarding in some way or another. I already feel different as a person now that the quarter has ended. UC makes your outlooks change.
