You'll want to read this one..

Here are my stats.. i'm new at this, so i'm not realy sure how it works. Anyway, i have an interesting story. I'm not sure what my GPA is based on the 4.0 scale.. but it's basically around an 88. My SAT score is a 2400 (it is.) This site is weird, because I don't want to sound like a jerk, but you guys sound like you know what you're talking about, and I want to know what colleges will think of this.

Scores: SAT 2400
didn't take the ACTs after the SATs..
SAT IIs: Chem 770, Math 2 740, US History 690

About me: My dad's hawaiian and my mom's from here.. i dont know what that makes me

extracurriculars (theyre kind of weird, not your typical student government)

--Very involved in Model UN, introduced Hillary Rodham Clinton into a conference in New York City
--work at Apple ipod store in the mall
--Teaches the beautiful art of hawaiian dancing (My dad is a native Hawaiian)
--Free Tibet club president
--Started the Surf Club here in New York where there's absolutely no waves near by at all (we got to go San Diego for a weekend though!)
--pole vaulter for indoor and outdoor track, soccer in the fall (goal keeper)

The main concern I have is that sure i took some rigorous classes, but I didn't score super high in them. My GPA is low, and that's a known fact. I hope colleges won't think i'm lazy though and didn't work hard enough, since it conflicts with my SAT score.

I want to go into Medical Law. My favorite schools right now are Georgetown and Johns Hopkins.. not ivy leagues, too uptight.

What do you guys think? I'd really appreciate the feedback, that would be amazing.

And by the way, I'm not some weird chick whose obsessed with Jennifer Aniston. My name is Jen Aniston haha (I kid you not!)

Gracias again,

Native american (you will check that box) + perfect SAT = HYPSM

I am pretty unfamiliar with the 100 point scale. I think it would make it easier for people to evaluate if you converted it. Take all of your semester grades in all your classes. Add 4 for each A, 3 for each B, 2 for each C, 1 for each D. Then divide by the total number of classes you took.

BTW, good job on the SAT!!!

ah okay that makes sense. thanks!

HYPSM? i dont believe i know the jargon of college confidential yet lol

At my school
90-100 = A
80-90 = B
70-80 = C
65-70 = D
<65 = F

Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
MIT

Basicly, the half dozen super elite schools.

so are you going to johns hopkins then? or are you already in johns hopkins or what.. beacuse that would be really cool if youre in either of the above

HYPSM = harvard yale princeton stanford MIT

So since an 88 is a high B, would that equate to like a 3.3 or 3.4ish?

And Bill, are you sure Hawaii = native american. If it is, that's a big boost.

ooh. what about my 88 gpa though? i've heard that if you get a high SAT score and have low grade point averages itll come across as laziness (although i deifnitely dont consider myself lazy, i'm just incapable of raising my grades in any classes it seems haha).. my only other two problems is that i have absolutely NO ideas about my college essay(s), and i'm not sure how great my college rec. letters are going to be.. which could be problematic

I'm going to John Hopkins

What you class rank.
If it good you GPA won't be a problem.

that's awesome.. if i get in next year, i may go myself ( i probably will if i get in,.. it's my top choice) .. yeah great school, kudos to you

our school doesn't do class ranks.. or valedictorian.. or weighted gpa's.

Could you recomputate your GPA like I suggested?

And Bill, are you sure Hawaii = native american.

[/quote]

I'm not to sure but I think he doese have some claim to being native american. However, some schools ask for proof of tribal enrollment.

88 is about a B+

What is a B+ on a 4.0 scale though? A 3.3 could be a bit of a problem for HYPSM, although I still think she could get into JHU. A 3.5 though, she could probably get in everywhere.

alright it comes out to like a 3.4

An 88 is about a 3.4 give or take a tenth of a point.
If her class rank is in the top few percent colleges will forgive her GPA.

Also, remeber to apply to safety schools.
