Young Arts notifications

Hi, did anyone apply for Young Arts this year? My daughter applied. She has found out that a friend of hers was notified yesterday that he is a finalist. My daughter hasn't received any communication from Young Arts, and is feeling discouraged.

I called the organization, and they said that the notifications will be sent out for finalists all this week and next, and then they notify semi-finalists and merit honorees.

I was wondering if anyone else has heard or been notified.

A friend of ours is a finalist in dance. He was called yesterday. Last year he was an honorable mention but those don’t go out until late November or early December even. SO if you haven’t heard yet it is likely you are not a finalist but you are definitely still in the running for honorable mention.

My son was notified yesterday he is a winner/finalist. Last year, he was a merit honoree and did not get notified until December. It’s not over yet, so sit tight! Good Luck!

Thanks for your responses.

I am wondering if Seniors received priority in Young Arts? I notice that many people mention being a merit nominee first, and then getting to be a finalist as a Senior. I have heard this from other people as well.

My daughter is a Junior.

There is another Youngarts thread under scholarships. Sounds like a lot of people have been receiving phone calls especially in dance and writing. Not a ton of people posting about theatre yet. My daughter applied for musical theatre, is a junior and has not heard anything. Search Youngarts 2014 for the other thread. I hate the waiting and imagine I will be a mess next year when we are going through the college audition process. Best of luck!

I applied for cinematic arts and haven’t heard of anyone being named finalists for either that and photography. Do you think calls will still be made tomorrow?

A senior friend of mine has been notified that she is a finalist in the Spoken Theatre category.

Everyone should be notified via email before the end of November. As stated on the website.

There seem to be a majority of seniors in the finalist category, but that is not a rule. There were a few juniors in the theatre category last year.

My understanding from speaking to someone who was a finalist last year as a junior, is that you can’t be a finalist twice (or at least you don’t go to Miami for the week-long program twice) but he still applied to Young Arts this year so that he could be considered for the Presidential Scholar honor.

If someone has different info - please jump in!

I just called Young Arts and they told me that all finalists have been notified already, but the list is not yet 100% final, because they have to check everyone’s availability first. so, I guess there is still a little bit of hope :-(

I believe the panel who judges the applicant’s submission, does not have any other information about the applicant. So grade/age should not be a factor in selection.

Where did you find the number to call??

Also…do you know if notification is via snail mail or email? Congrats to your son Dramamom0804! You must be very proud!!

I just got a rejection letter for Short Story, but I also applied to Novel Writing and Poetry. I haven’t heard a thing about the other two categories.

Just to be clear, It was not my son who is a dance finalist. It is my good friend’s son.
I do have two sons, but my D is the reason I frequent this drama board. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
