I thought it would be good to start a thread where all of us who are in the mid-teenager years and are transferring next fall could come together and discuss some of our preoccupations, goals, stats, etc. so that we can form a bit of a coalition/support group during the transfer process since the vast majority aren't in our situation.

Hopefully we can all contribute to this thread since it's nice to know others in the same situation.

I'm 17 as stated earlier, I'm majoring in either political science or history (applied as a history major) and philosophy has been interesting me lately.

Ultimately I'd like to apply to law school and work in litigation or criminal prosecution (big pay gap, no?).

I want to join debate or mock trial when I transfer. Hopefully I can end up at UC Berkeley if the housing predicaments work themselves out.

I’m 17 also. I’m an English major, but I’m going to try to double major (if @UCLA or UCSB in Global Studies, if at Berkeley, then Political Economy of Industrial Societies). I’m interested in becoming a lawyer also, but the work hours sound too much for me, so we’ll see. Hmm… oh, I want to dorm after I transfer.

I’m transferring young because I tested out of high school (I took the CHSPE). What about you guys?

I’m not sure about the dorms though; it seems it’d be less expensive to live off-campus and then joining clubs and participating in classes would make up for the whole college experience/making friends stuff everyone always seems to talk about.

Yeah, I don’t want to be a BigLaw lawyer; I want to work in the DA’s. It seems it would be a lot more fun and less hours too. Sure the pay isn’t as great but I think it would bring more satisfaction.

Haha I want to dorm so I don’t have to worry about cooking or scrubbing toilets my first year. Public service… eh. I’m not too thrilled about taking out a 100k loan to work and earn 60-70k a year…
I have a 3.91 (got a B in Spanish, might get another one this semester boo). I will complete all pre-reqs for UCLA by the end of Spring, all pre-reqs possible for UC Berkeley, and I’m missing a class or two for UCI and UCSB (I might be able to petition for those foreign classes to be waived though). I have no ECs or work experience though. Ima lazy geek haha. No honors program either. By the time someone told me I should join, I’d already taken most of my gen ed classes.

Lol. Well some places have a cleaning person come by or a self-proclaimed neat freak who does it anyway. I have to cook anyway because I’m on a strict diet/am a health freak.

Haha. True. I guess you can work at a law firm for a year and spend very, very little to cover the loan and then go into public service.

I’m only missing one pre-req for Berkeley, all other schools I’ve applied to I’ve had all of them done, a 3.85 UC-transferable GPA, good ECs and I worked full-time for a while, and I didn’t do the Honors program either…really inflexible in terms of scheduling.

Well you have to keep in mind that CC has a disproportionate amount of talent. Only the cool kids find CC in the first place and the rest don’t. There aren’t as many 19-year-old college graduates as it might be expected from the info on this forum.

Yeah but I think most of us tested out of HS early. The problem is not many know there’s that option (or those who do don’t pass though I found the exam insanely easy).

I’m 18 right now, I’ll probably live on campus where ever I go(hopefully ucsd). I’ve heard alot about the “dorm experience” so I figured why not give it a year!

I actually graduated highschool at 15, got the diploma and everything. Now 17 and transferring out hopefully to UCLA for Biz Econ (the Haas program will have me repeat business classes I’ve already taken, not happy with UCB),

Hopefully us youngsters can get together have a chill time!

Same here. 17, English major. Wanted to be a lawyer since I was eleven.
This thread makes me feel like crap. I don’t feel so special anymore.
Where did you guys get in so far?

Well remember that CC is not representative of the actual student population…and even in relative terms we are very few compared to the myriad of people who applied to the UCs.

Personally, I know only five people in my district who are actually transferring out after two years, and only I am the one who has a GPA above 3.5.

People shoot low. (Or they’re just not that good at college?)

In case anyone is wondering, the transfer orgs I’m in at UCSD are pretty age blind and welcoming. On average we’re older, but I think that we’ve got enough of a spread that we realize that age doesn’t really matter. So don’t hesitate to join up. (:
