Have you guys been there yet? I went there for the first time yesterday since maybe some time last spring and was thoroughly impressed with the library. They, to my surprise, had finished all the construction. Anyone know when they finished it?

It has a very avant-garde look to it, and it has a coffeeshop in it (which i didn't see until i was walking out of it) in terms of just aesthetic appeal, it's probably the nicest library that i've ever seen. The upper floors still look the same, but when i walked in, i was like "wow..."

That, i don’t know. They have a ton of these really weird chairs and study areas though. I’m actually strongly considering going there as opposed to powell now. It’s just so convenient :3

I like just about everything about the renovation, except for perhaps the the “changing exhibits” space near the circulation desk (the circular area surrounded by translucent panels and monitors). It reduces the area people have to wait in line at the desk (and when only one of the two doorways was open during the renovation, it was quite annoying). Maybe I’ll like it more when something is actually exhibited there and it appears to have a purpose.

Also, it’s good to see that the public computers have been restored to the first floor and that a UCLA logon is now required to access them. This should solve the problem of people not associated with UCLA hoarding them for long periods of time.

I love the new study lounge on the first floor! I especially like that you can hook up laptops to the television screens if you’re working with a study group. The new reading room is really comfortable as well. Cafe 451 is much more quiet than any of the other coffee shops on campus, but I think the library setting is a big reason for that.

YRL was my favorite library last year but the construction noises were always a bit distracting. I think they finished between Session C and Week 1 because there was still construction going on during summer school.

i agree with your first statement, and disagree with your second one. That circle is dumb and awkwardly place. For me, replace computers with cafe’s in regards to your last statement :p
