Since it is just a few days left from April 9, I'm just wondering why isn't there are any thread for YSP 2014... I am an international applying this year. I feel monstrously nervous about the coming result now! Did anybody else apply this year? Also appreciate any feedback from YSP alumni :P

It is said on the website that emails have been sent out to the accepted ones, but I am not getting any emails… I guess it means I am out. I m going to cry for all night T^T

Still congratulations to those who are admitted!

(and why isn’t there anybody replying this thread??)

My first acceptance for this summer! I was getting super worried – rejections from SIMR, RSI, and alternate status for Iowa SSTP.

But, where are the 2014 YSP people?

@zetahydrae I’m going :)

@JoshWilson15 Do you mind sharing stats?

@zetahydrae Congrats, R u going to ysp? stats?

Yup, I am! Glad to see someone else on CC going I’m pretty excited as this is my first lab research experience haha.

Stats:

Sorry for long post! This is my first time posting stats on CC, so not sure what people really want.

@zetahydrae
I am new to CC as well, so not a problem at all.
I got rejected from RSI. I heard it is super exclusive- only 2 from each state, so that kinda eases he pain.
I had to decide if I want to go to YSP or do a local research internship (easier to get, but you can work on it the entire year).
I ended up going with the local research internship because It offered the most detailed research. The problem with these summer programs, unless you go to SSTP, RISE, or RSI, is that they are to basic to be considered “college level research”. Plus, 7k is ridiculous. My counselor told me the best programs are always free, and that could not be any more precise. I have a classmate who got into SSTP and she turned it down to do research at UMKC.

@anatomy98

Same, about the rejection from RSI! Rejection as well from SIMR. I couldn’t find any solid local internship, so I just decided to go with YSP. Although it is more expensive, most of the threads I’ve browsed indicate that it’s more prestigious than RISE. I plan on using my research for Siemens or Intel ISEF, either way.

One of my friends went to YSP last year, though, and he said it was the best six weeks of his life. Hopefully it’s just as enjoyable this year! Shame I won’t see you there, but have fun with your internship

Hey. I also got accepted, but my stats were nowhere near zetahydrae’s, haha. I think mostly because I’m from Washington State, and mostly because of my essays, even though i’m a terrible writer.

Anyways, congratulations to anyone else that made it! Hope to see you there.

I’m going as well!! Great to see so many people on here who will be there this summer
Has anyone else started ranking their research preferences yet? I’m not making very much progress…

@mimsyborgs @KevinMa97
Do you mind sharing stats?
Congrats

@anatomy98 my stats aren’t super impressive…

I’m a 16 year old junior male
2290 SAT II (800 math, 770 writing, 720 cr [ugh])

4.0 unweighted from sophomore/junior year (■■■■ freshman year lol), AP bio, AP statistics, AP spanish, Honors english this year (you can only take ap’s junior and senior year at my school)

My essays were pretty good; I wrote about how my parents went to Berkeley and how that has affected me in a way that has made me more environmentally conscious. My weather patterns part was pretty good too.

My recs were really good, I’ve had the same teacher for 3 years who is my current AP bio teacher and we’re very close. Honestly, she’s probably the reason I got in.

Let me know if you have any more questions :)

Stats: 16 y/o junior.
2190 SAT. (770M, 720W, 700Cr)
217 PSAT (76M, 74W, 67Cr)
AP Environmental, AP biology, AP world history: only got 4s on the tests.
780 Biology E
770 Math 2

3.92 unweighted (whoops), and my school doesn’t do weighted.
6 AP classes this year (AP lang and comp, human geography, statistics, chemistry), self studying 2 (AP us history and AP computer science)

Activities:
Varsity tennis 10th/11th grade
Captain of knowledge bowl team (kinda like quizbowl)
Volunteer at local hospital
Model United Nations

For my essays, I wrote about a lab I did in AP Bio, and how that taught me a lot of new skills in the laboratory setting. For the global warming one, I kind of structured my response as an argument against climate skeptics, and used a bunch of statistics to back up my argument.

I’m procrastinating on doing the forms haha. Don’t really want to detail all the policies for Siemens and Intel ISEF :’(

For my essays, I essentially put my difficult experience one in narrative form and tried to inject humor. My climate essay was mostly just three reasons as to why it exists, and my strengths/weaknesses essay was cobbled together from other app components.

Hey guys, I finally made an account since the last time I tried to the verification game didn’t work Anyways I’ll be attending the program with you guys, gotta say you’re all a little intimidating. All SATs over 2000? Geez. I only took the PSAT and got a 1550. Really think the personal essay helped me get in. Here are my stats if anyone’s interested.

16 y/o junior
PSAT: 1550

Classes: Digital photography INT, APUSH, Anatomy & Physiology, AP English, Trigonometry, French 3
Joined two clubs, one is MESA and the other is CSF (California Scholarship Federation)

oh and my GPA is 3.7 unweighted 3.8 weighted

Awesome, another one! Just curious, but where are you from? @irina57

I’m so excited to talk to someone who I’m going to meet this summer! I was born in Russia but currently live in California what about you?

@zetahydrae Do you know how many students applied, got accepted/waitlisted to ysp or rsi?
