Young Soph. With a Huge Change

Hi.

Last year, freshman year, I had a cumulative GPA of 2.6 with two honors classes. (World History/English). This semester I have a GPA of 3.56 with no honors classes. This may seem like a stupid question, but can I make it into a good college? I plan to take IB Bio Junior year. Then IB English, IB Bio 2, IB French 1, maybe IB Physics, Senior Year. So I graduate with 5 IB classes and my GPA being around 3.2 or 3.3. Do I still have a chance at schools like UWashington or UOregon or UColorado-Boulder?

Thank you so much for any help and/or responses.

I think I want to major in Biology and hopefully go to Med School.

your best choice=drop out of highschool and save yourself from the misery

.................

haha...no...ull be fine.....prolly not harvard or anything but ull get inot a good school....if u wanna get into a realy good school join sum EC"s

I have a few like 4 or 5...Is that enough?

Become President of something, or find a cure for cancer.

Well the first part of it was actually nice and meaningful...the second........not so much.

ull be fine

Is it better to take More IB's Junior year or senior year?

Because I can only take 3 IB's Junior Year (IB History, English, Bio, and Chem (but i dont want to take Chem))

I can take a lot Senior Year (IB English, IB French, IB Bio 2, IB Physics)

I really do not want to take IB History/English Junior Year.

my school doesn't even offer IB only AP and not even for everything..some things the highest you can get is honors

Take as many as you can possibly handle. Almsot everyone has a class they don't enjoy in the IB program, but they take it because that's what colleges like. But you know your limits and don't kill yourself. However, I really don't think taking regular classes, English in paticular, will look very good.

Dont worry.

Continue getting good grades and prep for the SAT.

im pretty sure youll get into a decent college, and you can always transfer after couple of years to a better college.

Im familiar with UofO and I would say you've got a 50% chance of getting in there. But if your GPA stays on the rise, these chances will increase. However, I don't think it would be reasonable to expect full ride scholarship.

UofWashington, Im not sure about. Thats a very good school in the Pacific Northwest. Id say you have a 10-15% chance there.

Again, as long as you keep up the good work with grades, these chances should increase.

i'm assuming you're not doing full ib? because your schedule would indicate you're not (you need 3 higher levels, and you listed only 3.) colleges would prefer diploma to certificate, but if your school only offers certificate, then that's the best you can do. ib is better than ap not only in rigor but also because there's so much more work (cas, ee, tok, etc).

Your GPA will not kill your chances at the 3 schools you listed. Just make sure your scores are in range.

Thanks for all the help..the only thing Im worried about is taking IB History/English Junior Year and my GPA rocketing down. Some colleges have a minimum GPA too..

If you had trouble with honors classes freshman year,

then things improved when you were not in honors classes,

why are you going back to honors classes? And so many of them?

An A in a non-honors class looks better than a C or D in an honors class, doesn't it? Why don't you take one honors class in your strongest area and non-honors in everything else?

I am taking IB's for College mostly. I am strong in language, and science. That is why I think my choices reflect my abilities the best. I am bad at math so I am not taking IB Math Methods (although Im two years ahead of my level)

Get an ACT above 32, or an SAT score above 2000 and you're in. Screw your GPA. Those ACT/SAT scores will get you whatever you want.

I knew the SAT/ACT was important...but not THAT important..I always thought GPA/EC's put you over the top..
