YoungArts 2014-2015

I'm pretty sure there was a YoungArts thread awhile ago, but it disappeared off the face of HSL.

Deadline in 10 days! Has anyone else not completed their application yet? I'm still working on mine...but my excuse is that I'm entering a music category, and the more I put it off, the more I can practice :P Actually, I'm planning on submitting it 4 days before the deadline, haha.

YoungArts coupled with the SAT in a few days is not a pretty combination. :(

I’m doing YoungArts for piano!!

Doing it for clarinet! My contemporary piece is not ready and definitely going to be really sketchy, haha.

I’m doing it for Visual Arts!

Doing it for poetry. Thankfully I have already selected the poems I’m including in my portfolio.

Did any one have difficulty registering for writing. When I register, a signup page to login or sign up comes up but it does not give a Writing Category under “I am interested in” drop box. Did any one else have this difficulty?

@acamar @tetrisfiend im doing wrting to

i’m submitting for script nd i did not hav that difficullty they just let em pick writing

I’m also submitting for Poetry! Just sent my application :-S

Sorry for asking this cuz it is probably irrelevant to what this thread is for :frowning: but,

How competitive is the YoungArts and what exactly are the merits?

@infinity17‌ - It’s pretty competitive for music (and, presumably, writing as well). Levels of recognition are merit, honorable mention, and finalist - if you’re a finalist, you get to attend their Miami convention and compete for prizes (I think first place wins $3500? Don’t quote me on that).

I actually don’t know that much about the merits, just that you have to be really, REALLY talented to go to Miami as a musician. :stuck_out_tongue: Most likely sending in my app later today; I really don’t have much hope for becoming a finalist at this point, though.

Is it just my computer, or is anyone else’s music recordings uploading very, very slowly?

i think getting any of the awards (merit, HM, finalist) is a huge accomplishment

deadline passed! what did every1 submit?

I applied for spoken theatre when did people find out last year

@shidarius Finalists found out the first week of November, people who were merit award or honorable mention found out around the third week of November and everyone else who didn’t win anything found out in the beginning of december.

@vahn : oh wow thats really early for the winners! the website said “all applicants will be notified of their status by mid-december” but i didn’t know the winners were informed earlier. hoping we get notified before december  btw what did u apply for?

Yeah me too! And I’m doing visual arts

I submitted in the Poetry, Short Story, and Creative Non-Fiction categories.

Cannot wait for beginning of November now!
