Anyone apply in the Dance program?

My best friend did it

Reports from the Theatre forum that emails from SAIC have been sent with something like, “… would like to congratulate you on receiving recognition from the National YoungArts Foundation for your significant artistic success.” My D has received one and one other person on the Theatre forum has reported it also.

Not sure this is indicative of anyone being a Finalist (could be as simple as recognizing those who applied), but things are starting to move.

Good luck (or break a leg–which ever well-wishing philosophy to which you subscribe) to everyone!

Ok. So it seems those emails are most definitely a “recognition that you participated” not any indication of prize. sigh Come on already!

so frustrating. all the schools have access to our emails once we apply to YA!

@coloraturakid What do you mean by the schools having access to your emails?

Oh do you mean that you’re getting a lot of emails to apply to different art colleges and universities? I totally agree, they’ve been sending me a lot of emails to apply and such, so it’s kinda annoying…

once you apply to YA, it’s like joining a massive mailing list, as if everyone wasn’t getting enough direct mailings from schools after PSAT, AP, ACT, SATs. it’s just all a bit much when certain institutions start sending congratulatory emails and confusing already frazzled applicants.
they gave access to our email addresses, is what I should have written. sorry @OverInfinity!

@coloraturakid No worries! I guess all of us are so anxious to hear back from the foundation and these extra faux “congratulatory” messages are really getting on our nerves!

Going off on a tangent, is anyone else submitting to any other arts competitions, like scholastic art and writing?

@OverInfinity I submitted my play to the Scholastic Awards :)

@16elir Cool! I think that we’re in the same region for Scholastic, so we might get to meet each other! I’m submitting a few of my paintings and drawings and also a short story, although I’m planning to edit it sometime.

@OverInfinity I’m submitting to Scholastic, too. Short Story, Memoir, that stuff. Oh–and Poetry (can’t say that I have a lot of faith in that).

I’m gonna submit a portfolio for Scholastics and maybe a flash fiction piece too.

I’m not sure if I’m going to submit for Scholastic. I have a few things that I could, but not decided yet. Should I?

@Ozymandeos You should submit them! What do you have to lose? I think I will be submitting for Poetry, Short Story, and maybe Humor…

Question about the Scholastic submissions. It says on my D’s app that she has to have 4-8 items in her portfolio. She only has one script to submit. Is that what everyone else did?

I received this email today…makes me wonder why they sent the fee waiver this late and if this means anything…

“Congratulations on receiving recognition from the National YoungArts Foundation.
Due to your advanced interest in the arts, we have waived your application fee if you submit your Common Application by November 1.”

Same here!! I honestly got excited and then realized they sent it to everyone

are you guys seniors? my juniour D did not receive such emails.
