[-O< Thanks!
So I just applied for Writing, Short Story. SOOOOO NERVOUS I might die
I’m finding it really hard to stay positive because I went on Youtube to look up the material of last year’s finalists and DAMN. They’re so good.
Anyways, ill get over it.
Also does anyone know when we’ll be notified?
I just applied for Writing, Creative-Nonfiction!!! I just turned it in though, and my teacher didn’t read it like she said she would… So I’m praying my grammar isn’t that bad… But maybe I should’ve reviewed my second piece… Anyways, Good luck!!!
(The finalists last year were insane. Part of reason why I decided not to do Short Story… Well that and I can’t write fiction)
I’m feeling it’s around November 20th, but don’t quote me on that.
Just decided to submit on a whim; uploading my videos right now with less than an hour until midnight.
Thank god they guarantee at least merit for past winners, otherwise I’d be a nervous wreck until November.
Good Luck to everyone and don’t forget to let us know if you were chosen!
Also, I thought my pieces were creative non-fiction but I realized I had made one of them too stylized and outrageous for that. So I submitted short story. And another thing. I don’t even know why I applied for the writing discipline; I’m a director for the most part and do a lot of visual arts work (photog, painting, drawing, sculpting, etc.) I’ve written in the past but I don’t really know what made me choose it as my only discipline. LOL I’m such a mess.
Hi everyone! I have some good news. I just received an email (well it was around 10:00pm) from YoungArts saying that the deadline to start a YoungArts application was at 11:59pm today. For those that already have an application in progress, the deadline has been extended. The new deadline is on October 18th at 8:00pm EST. Hopefully this should give those of you who still have an application in progress more time! I think you all should have received an email about it, too. I was about to submit my application, but since I have more time, I will continue to work on it.
Here’s the exact email:
Dear YoungArts applicant,
The deadline to start a YoungArts application for the 2016 cycle is TODAY, October 16, 2015 at 11:59PM (EST).
We want to see your work! Since your application is already in progress, you are eligible to upload and submit your files during our grace period, which ends promptly at 8PM (EST) on Sunday, October 18.*
We are here to help and will be available until midnight tonight, and from 9AM-8PM on Saturday & Sunday. YoungArts staff will be available to answer questions about the application and the discipline requirements at apply@youngarts.org or 1-800-970-ARTS (2787). If you are experiencing technical issues, please contact Acceptd at 1-888-725-2122, extension 2.
Thank you and best of luck!
LOL I wish I would’ve known that I would have worked on my pieces more. Oh well. Here’s to November and the good news (or heartbreak) it may bring.
I am applying the writing category for poetry. Is anyone else applying for that?
My twin did!!
@HalfwayThereUni1 How many poems did your twin submit? I intend on submitting 3 poems
@Tricia22 She sent in four poems.she still went under the page limit, I’m pretty sure, though.
I applied to poetry and short-stories. Not expecting much this year, even if my submission is miles better than the last few I sent.
@Tricia22 Literally same!! I got the email at around 10 pm, and again at around 12:30 am. I’m so glad they decided to give applicants more time… I’m currently still working on my submissions now!
I’m applying for both short story and poetry too, @Ozymandeos and @Tricia22 ! Good luck to you guys!!
When will results be announced, do you think? Also, when were they released last year?
@SirSly Last year, they released them Novemeber 20th, which was Give Miami Day. This year, Give Miami Day is Novemeber 19th. So I’m guessing sometime then.
Good luck!! What did you submit in? I submitted into Writing, Creative-Nonfiction.
From what I’ve read in the 2015 YoungArts thread, the finalists should be announced in early November.
@HalfwayThereUni1 I submitted into Writing: Play/Script! I would’ve submitted into Poetry also but I didn’t have enough time… If I’d known they would extend the deadline for started applications, I probably would’ve submitted some poems too. ;D
And thanks, hopefully the results come in sooner than later. I’m nervous, but also hopeful. Good luck to everyone as well!
I think they notify the finalists before they announce them, as well. I can’t remember, for certain.
If anyone in writing wants to share their submissions, just for comparison and because good reading is always fun, I’m game for that!
