Indeed. Sunday has passed and it is all up to fate now.
Did anyone apply for theatre by any chance?
Was looking through my submissions and found a few contradicting words/lines in 2 of my 3 poems - goodbye to the (little) hope I had of winning anything lol.
@lumiere16 lol, then I’m right there with you because I had a typo and my creative-nonfiction pieces were no where NEAR as organized as well as I thought they were.
@Tricia22 I didn’t… though I kinda regret not looking more in depth/submitting into the Spoken Word category.
It’s crazy how you can look over your submissions several times and not see any errors, then when you finally submit it, you notice an error!
@HalfwayThereUni1 I wanted to apply to theatre, but I didn’t have enough time to work on both my poetry submissions and a theatre submission.
Totally agree with you guys about finding mistakes in your submissions or regretting not doing this/that… hindsight is 20/20 sadly :’(
I’m too scared to even read over mine for typos right now.
@HalfwayThereUni1 @shadyconcepts Wishing I had started my submission earlier, so I would have had time to step away and return to them. I’ve got so many regrets now
@Tricia22 @shadyconcepts It is crazy how you never saw any mistakes before submission!! Now I’m kicking myself with so many ways I’d reorganize things…
@Tricia22 I get what you mean about not enough time. My problem is procastinstion. (And I felt like if I devoted way too much time to my pieces during the summer, my dad and aunts and relatives in general would want to read them, and thatttt is an absolute no).
@lumiere16 Sameeeeee!! Telling myself I can just spend Friday evenings in my pieces was nottttt a good idea…
@Ozymandeos I felt like that, too, a couple hours after I submitted, but then I decided I had to know. My big thing is reorganization… But I can still have a little hope, right?!
Do any of you know anyone that’s submitted before? At my high school. Something like YoungArts would never be broadcasted, if you know what I mean.
It’s not a very well-known contest in general, but my high school does have a poster or two about YA (in English classrooms). If you’re friends with writers or are in a circle of writers, it’s probably easier to have heard about it. I had two friends (who graduated already) who were amazing at writing (they both became finalists in writing at different times) and helped notify me of different contests to submit to, so yeah it helps a little if you have people who have done it before or also love writing But honestly I found out about YoungArts through Google like two years ago – I found it on an ad and clicked on it and here I am lol
Hey! Just found this thread but I submitted in the Poetry category on the 15th. I wanted to do short story as well but I had to scrap a huge portion of the one I’m currently working on and I wasn’t able to finish it on time. I’m a junior and it’s my first time–I submitted 4 poems and forgot page numbers too lol. Anyway, good luck to everyone! Hopefully some of us will meet in Miami this coming January!
@shadyconcepts I found YoungArts on Google, too! I was looking up the Scholastic Gold Portfolio Winners (I wanted to read more of their writing!!) and two were finalists-- so I saw their on YouTube, looked up YoungArts, and the rest is history.
@ecrivain934 Welcome!
@lapras96 I applied for Photography and Visual Arts; I’m a senior and this is my first time applying. Best of luck!
Senior here…i think this is my third time? First time that I’ve had any actual good submissions, though. Writing and poetry…hoping for the best.
