I figured nows as good a time as any to finnaly post soooo yeah i’m gonna apply for creative non-fiction and short story I also totaly forgot about scholastic so I better get on that

yup I’m a freshman in college! I submitted like the end of August tho Lol

@HalfwayThereUni1 I submitted to scholastics also last year, won silver nationally

@MandomeLife I already submitted late August…was I TOO early to submit??
and what does youngarts look for in visual arts applicantions?

hi everyone! i’m interested in submitting to youngarts for poetry and/or short story. does anyone know what style of writing youngarts tends to prefer? how far are y’all on your applications?

@SmallBrownChild You’re fine.

Please look at the portfolio examples seen at the bottom of http://www.youngarts.org/visual-arts to see what they’re looking for (without the artist’s statement).

@SmallBrownChild Congratulations! Same! I got a Silver Medal in Critical Essay (on a piece I didn’t even think would get Honorable Mention), but they surprisingly put it in Best Teen Writing. I’m going for national Gold, American Voices, and Gedenek Awards.

@ElloLove @Pahalia Lol, me too. I think I’m going to submit in five writing categories this year…

@HalfwayThereUni1 Will you have to pay the $35 fee five times?

@arrayloops At the bottom of the youngarts website (the /writing section), there are a few readings by winners.

@stressinsteph $35!!??!!! Where do you live?! I would not be able to enter into Scholastic if the waiver was $35 dollars!! Our region it’s $5, I think $20 for Portfolio submissions. But I’m eligible for a fee waiver. (Which covers all submitted pieces).

Why so expensive?!?!

@HalfwayThereUni1 yeah girl/guy young arts is like 35$ and you have to pay $35 PER category. (not sure how writing works out…) but luckily theres a fee waiver you apply for!

Does anyone know if there is a preference to applicants who submit their work early?

Also, can you submit multiple writing entries? Could I submit work into creative writing, novel excerpt, and short story? Thanks!

@annamatisse I’m pretty sure you can submit to different disciplines, just not multiple entries to one single discipline.

@annamatisse There is not a preference for applicants who submit early.

Can you submit a poem that’s already won a different award?

@GrandBudapest You’d have to contact the conflicting organization to make sure that they’re okay with you entering that piece.

To anybody submitting poetry-- how many pieces are you submitting/have you submitted?
