@wistfulwords Same dude!!! I LOVE LMM! I haven’t listened to “The Heights” but of course I’ve listened to “Hamilton” and I absolutely love that Musical!!! XD
That musical makes me want to learn how to sing— I literally put it onto my Bucket List! I mean I’ve been playing Violin for 6 years so I think it wouldn’t hurt to learn voice either (or maybe even pick up Cello and Viola)
Anyone applying to photography?
Just sent in some entries to poetry! I don’t expect to win anything but you don’t know if you don’t try!
Yeah I just sent in my Short Story Application 4 days ago. It was even scarier than turning in my Scholastic Story
I’d kept them for two months now and have been editing and polishing them nonstop. I worked really hard on them but despite that I already expect to get nothing. I won’t look back though—meaning I won’t even look over my short stories, not even a glance. I already got rid of all errors and typos but I’m afraid of finding one if I were to look back again and I don’t feel like doing that to myself.
I’ll just sit back and forget about it until the results come. But I wish all of you guys the greatest of luck.
Wow, now I’m stressing out! Should I have sent mine in by now? I was kinda thinking of submitting my stuff a couple days before the deadline, as I’m working on my stories for all my contests at the same time (still iffy on whether I’ll submit the same ones to different contests, though). Still, anyhow, good job on getting yours ready, @wistfulwords and @Lunarlitgend , and good luck!
@FlameAlchemist Thank you
And I wanted to submit my story in October but I discovered that the closer you submit to the deadline the longer the upload can take. Sometimes it can take hours because so many people will be trying to submit. And I didn’t want to go through that because I didn’t want to be stressed about it and I’m also quite impatient. If I went through that I’d just be biting my nails and worrying about my submission, if it’s good enough. And heck no would I want to wait another long period if I happened to change something at the least minute and replace the submission. XD. I also turned it in early because with school starting and having a heavy work load I thought it would be better to review it again in the summer with careful eyes and turn it in rather than do it during school while I have a pile of Homework sitting next to me. It was just what I preferred to lessen the stress and to get it out of the way but if anything I feel more stressed because
- I’ll have to wait even longer for the results xD
and - I honestly feel really guilty for sending it early. I feel like if a typo IS to be found despite how thoroughly I edited and revised, and that, multiple times, I abandoned it and let it sit before reviewing it again, they’d think I rushed and that I didn’t use enough time to review it. So that bothers me!
Honestly dude don’t feel pressured by us at all! Take your time and turn it in when your ready!
uhhh wow you’re on top of things
Hi, everyone! I’m applying for writing. (I’m going to put in poetry and novel and maybe short story!) I won a silver national medal and three locals in Scholastic. I’m hoping that YoungArts is not as competitive as Scholastic!
@zoe528 I would say that YA is actually more competitive than scholastic. but good luck for you!
@StreenaSkywalker LOL, I don’t know if you’re referring to me but if so Thank you!
If anything, that comment actually really brightened my day!
@Zoe528 Wow, Nice Job dude that’s so impressive!!
And yeah Wistfulwords is right. I’m afraid YoungArts is much more competitive and serious than Scholastic is. But don’t let that discourage you! You have just as good of a shot as everyone else and considering how well you did in Scholastic I’m sure you also have a great chance in YoungArts as well! Even if it’s just Merit (which is a great and presitigous accomplishment)!
Thanks everyone! And, if anyone has any tips, let me know! I’m still fairly new to the whole Writing comp world!
@Zoe528 Just jumping off of what the others said, YoungArts is more competitive… but it’s also more subjective than Scholastics. If you don’t win, it doesn’t say anything negative about your writing. If you do win, then it’s a great thing!
But just besides that, it’s cool that you participated in Scholastics! I won a couple awards last year, and it was a real confidence booster as I hadn’t participated in any contests previously. I didn’t get to attend the National Ceremony, though, so :(. We had a family trip…
Hey everybody! I’m super late to the party, this is my first time entering in the Youngarts competition and I’m already 18 so this would be my first and last time haha! I entered in the Scholastic Awards 3 times before. The first time I got an honorable mention and I was speechless because the poem I entered was terrible. Second time I got an honorable mention and a Silver Key on a poem that I wrote for my friend Silver! And the third time I won a gold key and I was blown away! I decided to join this competition because this is the last time I’ll be able to do it!
If someone doesn’t mind answering, what does it feel like to be at a regional event? (Such as Los Angles/New York) vs. Young Arts Week in Miami?
@glamourbiscuit Hi Glamour welcome to the Forum and don’t worry you aren’t late at all!!! All your accomplishments and experiences sound awesome! Congratulations on all your Scholastic wins!! This is my first time participating in YoungArts too so I feel you, but alas I can’t really explain the regional events because I’ve never been to one but hopefully if we’re lucky enough we will be able to go and attend!
@Lunarlitgend How exciting! I’m glad we can go through this process together then! Hopefully we get to learn about things more as they go on! And thank you so much for your kind words and compliments! <3 What disciplines are you entering this year?
@glamourbiscuit
LOL You’re welcome! You deserve them, those are great accomplishments!! And I’m glad we can go through this process together too!!!
Scholastic I actually entered last year and I’m entering again so consider this my 2nd year!! XD
As for discipline I applied for the Writing Discipline: Short Story
How about you?
@Lunarlitgend <3 <3 <3
Good luck! I really like scholastics! I heard YA is way more competitive though But we can all dream haha! I will apply for Writing Discipline: Poetry! I’m very excited!
Oh! Also another question if anybody could answer is, are you allowed to submit work that you posted on your social media to the YA competition?
@glamourbiscuit Yeah, and way more subjective :-S which is why I’m more of a Scholastic girl than a YA one, even though it’s only my first try. I expect to get Merit or Nothing despite how hard I worked on my stories, but then again, I’m sure EVERYONE worked hard on their stories
And wow that’s awesome!!! I wish I was good at poetry xD
As for your question, I honestly don’t think they would mind. They’ve accepted other works submitted and displayed by other competitions so they shouldn’t mind something like this.
Thank you, everyone!!! I’m so excited and it’s my first and last time too!!! Good luck to all!!
