YoungArts 2018-2019

Yo is YoungArts done notifying? Have any finalists been notified?

They probably are :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m going to assume by this point that I didn’t win. I’m honestly not that torn up about it (not as much as I thought I’d be). I think my stories were pretty good, just not really fitting the Young Arts aesthetic. I’ll try again next year, but there’s a lot more contests floating about in the sea, so for now I won’t focus too much on it. Not to mention, I’m just too drained from the craze of this year’s notifications… I honestly just wish they’d send around a mass email. Anyhow, it’s been a fun couple of months! Good luck to those heading off to Miami or regional programs!

On the YA twitter it says the final list is going to come out on Thursday. I assume I didn’t win, but does that mean there is still a chance of finding out? Do you think notifications have ended?

I think the list will be out on Wednesday. And despite what they’ve said I fully believe that all winners emails went out on 11/14. They probably took several days to call finalists but it makes zero sense to send those emails out in batches when one of the deciding factors for getting into a regional is the time stamp of responding to the invitation.

@SpartanDrew i believe so as well. the deadline to register for youngarts week and regional programs passed days ago, and they still continued to say on twitter that winners were being notified. a little disingenuous imo, but maybe they have some reason for it idk. the list is definitely coming out wednesday tho

YA just posted on their Twitter:
“All initial winner notifications (email + phone calls) have been made, however, we are still waiting to hear back from some winners. Please check your spam folders for an email from winner@youngarts.org. Our official winner announcement will go out this Thursday, Nov. 29.”

I didn’t win this year. I’m so happy for everyone who did, though. I hope you all have a great experience!

Yeah, congrats to everyone who won! Hopefully this will bring you some amazing opportunities, and have fun!

For those of you on here who didn’t win and can apply again next year I really encourage you to do so. It’s so subjective and crazy from year to year. My daughter has won in different categories each year, it’s nuts. And I swear she won in categories I never expected her to win in and didn’t in categories I really thought were strong so you just never know. And as you all know, this is just one competition with one group of judges. The category my D didn’t win in last year she won another big time music award for that could be argued is actually even more difficult to win so you just never know and it is certainly not an indication of your talent and ability to make a career of your art. I think submitting for it is a win in itself!

Wow, that’s great! Which music award did she win? Just out of curiosity because I’d love to look into it.

I don’t think I won anything either. It’s pretty disappointing considering how much I pushed myself with my stories. I know they’re good but I guess not good enough for YoungArts.
But, I’m with you @SpartanDrew. I have two more years left so I’m just going to work harder next year and I won’t let this loss discourage me either

Congrats to all the winners again! I didn’t win anything either!

Since the contest is pretty much over, here are the links to my poems if anyone is interested:

Thank you to evereyone on this forum! It’s been a rollercoaster ride and we’ve all stuck through it together! To those entering in Scholastis this year, good luck! And to those who have more years to enter in these competitions, also good luck! It’s been great guys! <3

@lrg1122 she won 2 Downbeat magazine student music awards. For jazz soloist and blues/pop/rock soloist.

Just curious, if a Youngarts finalist can be accepted by a college easily ? e.g. Design finalist applies for design major or visual art finalist applies for art school, music winner for music school? How big the possibility? I know it is not guaranteed as colleges look for something else, but I mean if an applicant has far above average GPA, SAT, can YA helps get into a better school?

@Cheesecake19 YA is definitely an impressive achievement and im sure it helps in admissions, though i doubt it’s an automatic admission for most places. if anything, it at least shows you that your portfolio (which you might be submitting to schools as well) was high quality

writing finalists who got the anthology email today—is anyone else surprised at the piece of yours they chose to include? i found it interesting bc i wouldn’t have picked the one they did as my strongest! theyre the experts I guess haha

list is out!

Did any HM or Merit winners get an email about regionals? I wonder if they will email either way, whether you get in or not.
