I think I’m going to submit this week, for some of the writing categories. Poetry, short story, and novel I think. I don’t have much confidence in my work but hopefully I’ll give it a go anyways.
I’m submitting poetry, creative nonfiction, and novel tomorrow. High hopes!
Rewriting my novel last minute, so I’m cutting it close
@angelbutterfly Good luck! Don’t doubt yourself! You never know what may happen!
@Zoe528 Good luck! I can’t wait until results are in!
@StreenaSkywalker Aww man! That’s tough! But you can get through this! I hope you get it done by the deadline!
When do they send results? Is it late November? @glamourbiscuit thank you!
@StreenaSkywalker me too! It needs chronic editing, and of course my first twenty pages are the boring ones!
It’s funny, mostly everyone commenting on this thread is submitting for writing.
@angelbutterfly Yeah they usually send them mid-late November and have the list posted by December 1st I believe.
And yeah! But I guess it’s because, let’s be real, Writing is the best! XD
@StreenaSkywalker Good luck dude! I’m sure you’ll be able to get it done in time!!
@angelbutterfly by the way I’m with @glamourbiscuit! You never really know! Don’t doubt yourself!
I’m so nervous for the results haha! Sometimes I wish the would come sooner, just to ease all the anxiety you know?
@glamourbiscuit I’m nervous too, we all are! So, I (we) totally know what you mean about the results XD
And the competition closes in 2 days which is pretty nerve-wracking. It’s pretty much saying that this is really happening XD
By the way I looked into announcements and they usually start calling/Emailing winners around early/mid November Early December
Sorry Early/Mid November to Early December
anyone applying in spoken word? I was wondering how long your pieces are, because mine really arent? Like theyre all around 2 minute videos and should I have more?
@esruc1srenniw Unfortunately I haven’t applied to Spoken Word, but I’m sure someone on here has and will be able to help you answer that
Hi guys! I just started a YA 2019 thread as well. Anyone on here a musician? My D was a YA winner this year and also last year in voice. She attended the NYC Regional this year and said it was one of the best weeks she has had in the arts. This is her last year to shoot for Finalist. I hope you guys can jump on my thread as well as results start to come in. Last year Finalists started getting calls the week before Thanksgiving and the winners’ list was published on November 29th.
Here is a link to my thread. Good luck to you all!

Hi @SpartanDrew!!! Thanks so much for joining this thread and all the congratulations to your daughter!!! The NYC Regional sounds like a blast and being able to experience that… WOW!
I really hope she makes Finalist this year and thanks for the Good Luck!
@Lunarlitgend Haha yeah! I’d imagine everyone is a bit nervous or worried! When do you think they’ll start notifying people?
@glamourbiscuit LOL! I mean, as pessimistic as it sounds, I’ve already accepted defeat. I mean it’s so subjective and difficult to win and with all those submissions from students who go to all these fancy, and prestigious art schools, and/or having a professional writer/tutor help them write their pieces, it’s like… my God. I think it’s better so I don’t get as disappointed as I did last year with Scholastic. I’d rather not go through that again.
But I’ve submitted so I can at least appreciate the bravery and I might as well stay hopeful.
As for notifications, from the past YoungArts chats I’ve seen in College Confidential, YoungArts tends to start notifying people Mid/Late November. They almost ALWAYS notify the winners a week prior to Thanksgiving Break and post the list before December 1st.
Hey y’all! I was a 2018 finalist @Lunarlitgend, I just want to say that I felt exactly the way you did. I’d never been to any writing camps or had help editing my work (heck, I barely knew/know how to use commas), but I gave it a shot and that’s all any of us can really do Sometimes, you pour your heart into your work, share it, reach out to the world and it reaches back. Sometimes, it doesn’t. Either way, that exercise of vulnerability, of generosity is valuable in and of itself. So excited for all of y’all! Best of luck! Don’t be too discouraged
