Wow, thank you so much @hoooboy for the wise words! Just hearing that and your story just boosted up my confidence (not too much don’t worry :P), and I’m glad to see that I (and other applicants) aren’t alone and clearly your success proves that we can do it too (CONGRATS! :D). That actually really meant a lot! Thanks for the luck and again, congratulations on your past win as Finalist!
Well… The submission period is now closed. Let the judging of our amazing works begin!!!
@Lunarlitgend I feel the exact same way. There’s no use getting my hopes up 'cause it’ll just break my heart when the inevitable happens. I mean, I’ll be so happy for whoever wins, but this is just gonna be a wild ride.
Submitted to Visual Arts and Photography!! rlly nervous for results
@lovnothin LOL! Good luck dude!
@Lunarlitgend Don’t accept defeat just yet! You have nothing to worry about! I have never had any help for my writing/art either! I never went to private/art school, so I know what you mean! But I still think there’s a chance for us! We can offer our voices and perspective and I’m sure they’ll appreciate that whether we win or not!
Good luck everybody! You guys should be proud of yourselves! A week before Thanksgiving, we’ll be back on this thread waiting nervously haha! Stay strong guys and hope for the best! <3
@Glamourbiscuit LOL, thanks glamour! I guess you’re right! Everyone does have a chance no matter who you are or where you’re from or the opportunities you have. But, honestly, I don’t even know whether or not to be excited or nervous about coming back on here before Thanksgiving! I’ll probably be shaking so much someone would think I caught hypothermia or something XD
Good luck to you Glamour and I can’t wait to see you again before Thanksgiving
@Lunarlitgend I’ll keep hope for the both of us! Thank you for your wishes Lunar!
@glamourbiscuit Alrighty!! And you’re welcome
Hey, so I realized I made a spelling error in my application. How badly will that affect me? Should I give up hoping for an award?
@tatamang It will probably affect your application in some way, especially since the judges emphasis a polished manuscript, but I highly doubt that it will DRASTICALLY affect your application. I ALSO highly doubt that you’re the only one who made a mistake like that. I’m pretty sure I made one too in fact, and because of that I think the judges will hopefully have some sort of leniency since not every manuscript is perfect. But don’t worry about it too much and don’t give up on getting an award. I’m 99% sure that some of the people chosen in writing had some sort of error in their manuscript, even it’s something minor like one spelling error.
@Lunarlitgend okay, thank you so much! I thought I caught all the mistakes but I just looked through now and noticed. And you’re right, they get thousands of submissions each year, I doubt every winner had a technically perfect manuscript!
@tatamang Aww don’t worry! You’re right! I don’t think they expect everyone’s to be perfect! Speaking of spelling errors, one of my poems is actually full of spelling errors, but it’s supposed to be like that because it’s satirical! Hopefully the judges appreciate work like that haha!
@glamourbiscuit Your poem seems interesting then, aha! I think they look for experimental work so I’m sure they’ll see what you’re doing. And thanks for the answer! c:
@tatamang You’re welcome dude! And yup! You’re absolutely right, there is still yet to be a day for judges to receive submissions that are all technically perfect XD
@glamourbiscuit LOL Dude that’s funny!!!
@tatamang Hopefully!
Wait, what is it that happens a week before Thanksgiving? Is it just when they start calling winners? So if we aren’t called, are we not winners? Bc I thought the finalists list was posted Dec 1st
@angelbutterfly Hi dude! And you’re somewhat right. But yeah a week before Thanksgiving all the winners are contacted but not all the winners are contacted by a call. ONLY FINALISTS get called by Youngarts to be told they’re winners. The call for Finalists start first but some are called on different days, different times and the calls vary in terms of discipline as well. After all Finalists are called, Merit and Honorable Mention are contacted but they are NOT contacted by a call they are contacted by Email. (Finalists also get contacted by Email just in case a winner misses the call). So even if you don’t get a call from YoungArts it’s not the end of the world, nor does it mean you didn’t win. There’s still hope because you can still get Emailed that you’re a winner either by winning Merit or Honorable Mention.
@angelbutterfly Oh and as for the list, that is always posted BEFORE December 1st, not on. Not after.
Wow… looking at all these comments, I’m really stressing. I planned on submitting in a couple of writing categories, but the admissions fee was hefty enough that I only submitted in the short story one. Now I’m wondering if I should have just taken my chances and gone ahead… Too late now! But anyway, I’m really, really hoping to be a Finalist. From what I’ve seen in past threads, usually only the Merit and Honorable Mention winners who live near a regional area get to attend the YoungArts thing. Unfortunately, I’m a good couple of hours away from my region’s city. Sigh.
Well, I can’t change anything now. I think I’ll just try to forget YoungArts until the calls start coming in, and focus on my Scholastics submission! Holding my breath, though…!
