YoungArts Question

That is really awesome you should be really proud of yourself, YoungArts only selected 600 winners out of 10,000 applications! I wouldn’t be surprise if HM where notified last encase a finalist couldn’t make it!

Thanks emeraldEvi, I checked the mail and D has a thick envelope! Merit winner for a novel.

Hi! I applied in Short Story and Poetry and got two pretty thick letters in the mail today from YoungArts. I won an honorable mention in short story and merit award in poetry. They were postmarked for the 21st. All finalists have been notified at this point. A friend called Friday morning and they said that HM and Merit letters were going out and next week, rejection letters will be going out.

I was also invited to YoungArts NY. Anyone else going or know anything about the regional programs? Super excited. :]

Do you get notified that they reviewed your DVD?

^ Do you guys know if Merit gets a monetary award? It didn’t say anything in the letter or on the website, but Wikipedia says $100 and in years past that’s been the case. Plus they sent me tax forms.

I’m starting to get really nervous I didn’t get anything in the mail yet from YoungArts  Yasminwrites, the regional New York program is similar to Miami, but I think you have to live close to New York in order to participant. You should call YoungArts sometime next week and see. Congratulations on the Merit and HM Award!

It was this year that they stopped giving out the 100 dollars to Merit winners, I assume because there was about double the applicants, double the winners and I guess they couldn’t afford double the cost. Yeah, I got the tax forms too but I dunno what to do with them. Do I write my name or my parents or what?

Thanks wrencher! Don’t worry about it, you’ll get your letter soon! Yeah, I live in NY but on the letter it said they invited the best HM’s and Merit winners from all over the East Coast. Hotel rooms would be provided to anyone that doesn’t live within a commutable distance. :]

Honorable mention in Musical Theater! Congrats to all winners, HM’s, and Merit winners. :)

Darn, I don’t live on the east cost, I’m from the Mid West!

So Merit winners don’t get any type of money any more, what about HM? I thought they picked the same amount of winners every year, no matter how many applications they received.

Do forget to tell us all about your YoungArt New York experience :D

As for your tax form , umm I think thats depends on if your parent filed you on there taxes recently. Talk to your parents.

HM is $250. I’ll be at YoungArts New York too. Woohoo! :D

I go to a residential school and listed that as my primary address on the forms whereas I listed my actual home address as my parents’ address…I guess this means I have no way of knowing if I got anything or not, at least for now. :(

Whoa, got another letter today with HM for Poetry! So Yasmin, you and I just switched poetry/short story and HM/M awards, haha. SO close to finalist, urghhh.

Our S got a letter today - Merit winner on his instrument (which typically has NO Finalists OR Merit OR HM) so he is VERY excited!

What the heck! I have not received anything yet D: I just wish YoungArts would post the list of names on there site and get it over with; I just can’t stand the wait! I’m starting to think that I was rejected or something  I can’t even focus in school either, because all I think about is YoungArts, YoungArts, YoungArts!

D received two letters from YoungArts in today’s mail, HM for MT and HM for Voice (Classical). Had she been a finalist in either category, she would’ve had to relinquish a lead role in an opera performing in January, so for her, this is kind of the best of both worlds. She’s happy to not have to give up one opportunity for another, although YoungArts week would have been an amazing experience, and this was the only year she could enter the competition! Congratulations and good luck to all finalists!

congrats to all the finalists, hm’s and merit winners! emerald, are you going to youngartsNY? jjl, great I’ll see you there! what did you apply in? also, wrencher, don’t worry about it. you’ll get some notification soon and even if you didn’t win, it’s not the end of the world. there are thousands of other contests. :D

Last year D knew two guys with amazing professional credits (including Broadway) who were not Finalists, so no one should be disheartened if YoungArts doesn’t happen for you. Remember, they just see a tiny sample of your work amongst thousands of other entries, so no doubt plenty of great artists slip through their screens. ;)

yasmin! I applied for musical theatre and spoken! I’m going to take a shot in the dark and say you applied for writing haha :D

haha, how’d you know? just wondering, are you going to stay at the hotel or at your house? i’m trying to see whether the hotel is worth a long campaign to my parents. if it’s just going to be a day thing, i’ll sleep at home, but if there are events going on past nine, i don’t want to take the subway and bus just to do it again the next morning.

I think I’m going to stay home just because I live right outside the city and could take the train home! haha if I lived further away I would probably stay at a hotel though!
