Just wondering how many kids here applied for Youngarts? My daughter did and I believe the winners should be announced soon. If anyone hears anything please share. Good luck to those that did!
It is around 11000 applications. 700 students will br awarded including 170 national finalists.

Thanks for the link to the thread and the info! It looks like at least another week -10 days.
My daughter applied too (Acting, not MT). Thanks for sharing the link! GLTA!
Our D was a Miami winner her year, and our S was a Merit winner two years later. Both heard the week of Thanksgiving (D by phone and S via snail mail), but that was a few years ago. Good luck to all!
That is awesome Momcares, congrats! Did both of your children apply for theater when they won?
No, @iJKmom - D was Theatre/Musical and Spoken and S was Classical Guitar (only one guitarist went to Miami and S was one of only 2 guitar Merit Winners that year). It was a great experience for both – best of luck to you and others who have applied this year!!
So @MomCares did they hear before or after Thanksgiving?
D’s year (2011 IIRC) she got the call the day before her Thanksgiving break, but I’m guessing the dates vary year-to-year.
Best of luck to all who are waiting!
I heard of a dance winner (tap) yesterday.
I just got an email from YoungArts titled “announcing our 2016 Winners”. Here’s the link… http://www.youngarts.org/winners?utm_source=YA+Matters&utm_campaign=9e49f4dcb3-Give_Miami_Day11_18_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_7ddf5b079e-9e49f4dcb3-90390345
My d got an Honorable Mention for Theater - thrilled! No notification yet from YA, just looked at the list - the link to which was posted on a Young Arts CC page.
Congratulations, @rampions!!
The email mentioned above (with link) also said…
… and D’s year they said by far the most applicants were in Theatre so I’m betting they had lots of performances to review.
Again, congratulations!
Congrats to @rampions daughter! That’s a big achievement! It also can serve to be an affirmation on a national scale which is helpful to have when entering the BFA admissions process, in my view!
Thanks so much @MomCares and @soozievt. My daughter learned a lot from her unsuccessful submission last year, particularly about filming in terms of how to look past the camera, and also in terms of material choices. Her submission this year was definitely way better. Last year’s lessons learned were invaluable preparation for the prescreens, and now she’s really excited to participate in the regional masterclass week, which thank goodness takes place after the school musical.
My daughter received a Merit award for Design (costume design)! She’s a senior, but this was her first year applying. We’re so proud of all the hard work she’s done in HS theatre, and she’s in the midst of applying to BFA programs. This is so affirming! Looking forward to learning more about the regionals.
Congratulations, @letterhead!!
Thanks, @MomCares! Received info from YoungArts more quickly than we’d expected. Did not think airfare, hotel, etc. would be included! Selected LA as first choice because NY is during my daughter’s last HS production.
Congrats @rampions! Incredible opportunity!
