It’s really great that they’ve added the Regional events for Merit and Honorable Mention winners. The kids will have a blast, make lifelong friends and learn a lot!
Congratulations, @rampions and @letterhead!
Thanks @actorparent and @deelight. There are way fewer HM and Merit winners this year (in theater category, at least) - if I’m looking at it correctly there are only 10 in each while last year there were 21 or 22 in each. But now the HM and Merit winners get all expenses paid for whichever regional they select (which is amazing) - if they get that selection in on time. We live in the NY area and my daughter would have enjoyed going to either Miami or LA, neither of which she has been to, but, same as with @letterhead, Miami clashed with her final school musical performances and LA was in a heavy rehearsal period, so did NYC first with LA second choice. And – in the don’t give up department which goes for this whole process - she applied last year as well, and didn’t place at all.
Also this year in the lists they are not differentiating the theater/musical theater categories, as they’ve done previously.
Yeah, I also noticed no differentiation in the list with Spoken Theater and MT, as in the past. The regional events sound awesome. They didn’t have that when my D did it.
Thanks, @actorparent, and congrats, @rampions. My daughter submitted her reply in within 38 minutes, but I don’t know how the prioritizing will work as she’s only Merit. I sure hope she can go. What an opportunity! I did send an email to the YoungArts folks to ask a couple of questions and will post responses when I get them, if anyone would be interested.
Congrats @rampions and @letterhead! I know Honorable Mentions got to participate 4 years ago when my older child was a winner. Fingers crossed- it’s an amazing opportunity!
Reassuring response from the YoungArts folks: “Acceptances off of waitlists are determined by time stamp of the request and the discipline/category of the spot(s) available. All of our winners are invited to participate and the level of distinction is not a factor in any way.” Feeling so fortunate this Thanksgiving. Hope all of you have a lovely holiday!
