How old do you have to be to take the SAT? Like, must you be in the 11th or 12th grade at least?
What is the mean age of people on this board who just took the SAT do you think?

you can be in the 7th grade and up to take it

I took a practice one in 8th grade, and there was a big difference between my practice test and my actual test. I suppose if you were a genius, it wouldn't really matter. =P

Lots of gifted kids in Johns Hopkins & similar programs take the SAT at grades 7th & 8th. Many show significant improvement when they retest as juniors and/or seniors in HS.

I don't see a lot of young kids taking the test in my testing rooms...but, yeah, you could take it while you're still in middle school.

I'm a sophomore & I just took it. If you think that's going to change the curve any, I really doubt it-Or at least not significantly. Any sophomores I know that took it are in Calculus & signed up for AP English next year...

Middle school kids may change it, but when I took it in middle school, we all took it in December. I don't know if every kid in the TIPS program took it in December, but I can account for my entire county's middle school kids taking it in December. (There were 2 classrooms devoted to middle schoolers at my testing site Saturday, if that helps you. Out of probably 30 total classrooms.)

John Hopkins isn't just a university? I never knew that. Cool privileged kids! I'm jealous.

Puritan work ethic

Ah....I see.

Here's some info about the Johns Hopkins Program where they help identify & support gifted & talented youth. It's not necessarily for the "privileged" kids, but you have to know it exists either from your school, your family, or somewhere so you can apply & enroll in the program. Some states have their own programs for Gifted & Talented kids, unfortunately our state doesn't appear to have much (if any) support for gifted & talented.

HImom

My state doesn't have that much support either, I'm in the GT Program and ... there aren't a lot of activities to do.

^ Looking for something fun to do?? TAKE THE SAT!! lmao

I took the old SAT out of 1600 in 4th grade along with a few other kids, and I got an 1150 out of 1600. I'm in 9th now, and I'm going to take some practices and possibly take the new SAT next year, while I'm in 10th.

That's pretty good for a 4th grader! :D

1150 in 4th grade? holy ****

My words exactly. lol

i think any1 can take the sat if they pay.

Thanks. But like icantspellmyname said, proabaly anyone who would pay, would be able to take the test.

Actually, I'm not sure there aren't requirements that must be met before you can register for the SAT. I think you either have to be in at least 9th grade or take the SAT in connection with a recognized program, like Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Talent Search or similar (in which case you can take it in 7th and/or 8th grades). You could contact CB for more details.

I took the SAT in 7th grade....... and got a 1070.

That got me qualified for Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth on 2 seperate occasions (once after 8th grade, once after 10th grade)

when I took the SAT in 10th grade, I improved my Math and CR to 1450......

so...... yea, big jump.
