"Your application to Harvard College is incomplete"

Hi everyone, I just received an email from Harvard Ad Office:

"Your application to Harvard College is incomplete"

Dear Applicant,

I am writing to report that your application for admission is not yet complete.

We recognize that materials may be lost in the mail, may still be in transit, or may even be misplaced in our office. We have checked our files carefully, however, and as of today we cannot find the missing items. As time is getting short, we ask you to replace the originals rather than try to trace them.

If you believe you have submitted a required document and we do not have it, it may be that a component of that document is missing. E.g., "missing Secondary School Report" often means we don't have a transcript or "missing Teacher Recommendation" may mean that the Teacher Recommendation we do have is not from an instructor in an academic subject.

Your teacher or guidance counselor must resubmit the form by faxing a duplicate copy to the above numbers. Please have duplicate copies of the originals sent promptly to the attention of Ian Anderson, by Thursday, November 10, 2011.

When I checked my Applicant Status page, it says "Not Received" in the Secondary School / Dean's Report part.

However according to DHL's tracking record, the school received and signed for my mail on Nov 02. This included my transcript and counselor's evaluation.

I am really worried right now. Is one week too long (or too short) for an application file to be processed? Should I ask my counselor to re-fax the transcript to the school ASAP, or should I just wait and refresh the applicant status page tomorrow?

I have the same problem. My counselor sent it on Nov. 1 and there are religious holidays here so I can’t fax it till 14 November. What should I do?

InVeritas, did Harvard also send a similar email urging you to resubmit the missing parts?

Call the Admissions Office today and find out what to do. A person will answer the phone, and you aren’t the only one with this kind of situation. BUT don’t delay: call now.

dar5995 is exactly right. Call.

The instruction is very clear. Show it to your counselor and request a resubmission immediately. Meanwhile, you may scan your DHL tracking record and fax it to H, just for the record. However, the required resubmission is the only thing you can do now to help yourself. H (or any other school) will NOT be able to process an incomplete application.

Just gave them a call; the lady answering was lovely.

Basically Thursday is the deadline for me to fax all the documents in. I can do this, but I really hate to bother my counselor again :frowning: There is absolutely no other option anyway.

Thank you! I just emailed my counselor. Hopefully she will spare me some time tomorrow to do this faxing, or I won’t be able to get the documents in by Thursday.

H’s staff are always very nice and helpful, but a rule is still a rule and she must have told you the same thing… Nobody can (or should) change the rule, so that it’s fair to everyone. If I were you, I’d go to see the counselor first thing in the morning and make a nice personal inquiry - I’ll make sure, not just hope, s/he does it exactly as instructed. You’ve applied H early, so you must be one of the top students in your school. S/he’d be willing and happy to help. Don’t forget to write him/her a Thanks note, though. Good luck!
