^ Congrats to him!
DS received and accepted an internship with NextEra Energy down here in Florida for the summer. He was really torn, as he’d just turned down a co-op with a great company a week earlier (great company, but not the location he was hoping for). I told him it would all work out in the end and poof…it happened. He’s a strong believer in karma and positive thinking now!
^ Fantastic!
Super excited for DD as she is going to intern this summer for General Motors as a Communications Intern in Detroit! This wonderful opportunity is owed in a large part to the excellent EcoCar program at University of Alabama ( https://youtu.be/zviADM9wt9g ). More about the GM Communications Intern program can be found here http://www.gmcommsinternships.com/product/public/us/en/GM_internships/home.html#.
Wow, nice! Congratulations to your daughter @ThatsMyKid.
DD accepted internship at Goldman Sachs for Summer 2017 in the securities division.
^ how can that be? I heard Goldman only hires from the Ivies…
Congrats
@Chardo ^ and she’s a sophomore. Interviewed head to head with a girl from Harvard.
^ We need a button. Roll tide, roll tide, roll tide!
Super proud of my DS’s roommate. Just received acceptance from Harvard Law School! Roll Tide
It’s amazing to see what these students accomplish. Congratulations and Roll Tide to all!
Would like to brag a little different.
A big THANK YOU to the Coop Office folks for their preparation of the engineering students in general and my student in particular. His experience through the process from beginning through the interviews yesterday has been exemplary. I look forward to posting a follow up brag if he receives an offer.
Good luck to all those who went through the interviews!
ROLL TIDE!
In 2 weeks we find out where my Bama grad '13 will be matched for his residency (National Match Day March 17, 2017).
Fingers crossed that he gets one of his top choices.
^ what are those top choices, if ok to tell?
I can’t say his preference order here, but he was interviewed by:
Harvard Mass Gen, Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, Yale, NYU, WashUStLouis, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, UCLA, USC, UCSD, UCI, Loma Linda, UT Southwestern, Baylor, Tulane, Emory, and some safeties. He received over 40 interview invites and had to turn a bunch down that were quite good (UWash, UWisc, and others) due to time conflicts.
That is the beauty of the internet and social media @YankeeBelle
@mom2collegekids You must be lying. Bama grads can’t get into those places
@Chardo lol…funny, but son had been told by some skeptics that the NE would ignore his apps because of a bias. No bias was actually found from the NE. He got invited by all the NE he applied to.
That said, nearly every interview began with some questions about Bama football. Lol. “Have you ever been to game” “What was it like?” Blah blah blah… lol
And, oh my…the residency app process is soooo expensive. I think I spent over $15k on the apps and flying him around and renting cars and hotels…and food.
Not to mention that at his Emory interview his car was broken into and his laptop and iPad were stolen, so added costs of device replacement and broken window.
I’ll be glad when July comes and he’s earning some money. He hasn’t earned a dime since summer of 2013.
So now I can update post #494.
Son has accepted his coop to start this fall. Again, BIG thanks to the Coop Office team for their efforts to put together the Coop Fair and for the preparation of the students.
ROLL TIDE!
Congrats ^^Pop^^ to you and your son…co-op in T Town?
