^ sounds like you went to DVC

hey whats your major?

Actually I went to CCSF. :-)

My major is Molecular and Cell Biology.

oh, i c. 10 char

1) Positive! There are small class sizes. You always get the classes that you need and want. You don't have to compete with that many other students. You save yourself a fortune. The teachers actually know your name.

2) I didn't take advantage of any school resources in order to transfer.

3) The quality of teachers vary like with any school. A lot of the teachers had a Master's and attended top-notch universities. They're really willing to help students.

4) You'll meet some of the dumbest people at community college. 98% of students claim they really want to transfer but they're too lazy to actually do anything. The students at a CC are more concerned about passing a class than they are about earning an "A" in a class so there's little academic competition.

5) Go to UCI.

6) UCLA!!!

7) A lot of the stereotypes about community college students are true; the overwhelming majority are dim and lazy. But with that said, it is totally worth going to a CC if you did not get into your first choice college. The only thing you need to be careful about is to plan your major ASAP. All the universities have different requirements for the same major so you need to fulfill all the requirement in order to transfer.

do anyone had anymore advice?

1) well, its really, REALLY BORING

2) assist. councellers are terrible. All they do is google when I’m at their office. Some are nice though

3) I varies some are good, some are bad. Some were pretty tough and actually prepares students to succeed after they transfer.

4)A lot of them are very lazy. But it depends on the class. In general education classes you will meet some laziest people in existence. In upper level math and sciences, it tends to be less severe.

5)I would be working at mc-donalds for the rest of my life lol

6)you mean fall 08. Well I’ll most likely attend Cal, but I’m giving UCLA some thoughts

7) Yeah, you shouldn’t attend a CC unless you really have to. You will be really missing out on the college life( dorms, parties, girls etc..)

1) Was your experience at the Community College a positive or negative one? Please describe.
Positive- Not moving away and taking on more responsibilities than I could handle right out of high school. Low tuition.
Negative- No feeling of community. I go straight from school to home. Condescending counselors.
2) What resources have you taken advantage of to help you transfer?
Governor’s Fee Waiver waived my tuition fees.
3) How were your instructors at the community college?
Good, actually. I walked into cc thinking I had everything under control and wanting to get out asap, but I actually learned. And the professors are great with knowing what a trip the transfer process is.
4) How were the students surrounding you at the community college?
Ok. This I had problems with. Mostly unmotivated.
5) What would you have done if you didn’t attend a CC?
CSUN. Nothing wrong with that, but I want to go to the school of my dreams. I won’t settle for less. And turning around my academic record at cc has helped enormously to give me the chance to be such a strong applicant.
6) What school will you attend this fall?
fall 07- LACC, i’ll be a sophomore and it’ll be my last year. fall 08- hopefully U-S-C-!! ![]()
7) Any additional comments?
CC is a good choice. Despite feeling a bit lonely, getting into USC will be totally worth it!

1) Was your experience at the Community College a positive or negative one? Please describe.
erm, i would say neutral? some classes have good learning environments while others don’t. if there is alittle competition in the class then well thats cool.
but i just feel that the professors in my CC (iono about others) are really random, as in their characteristics. and some of them just can’t teach, period
so its really, whats the word… random
2) What resources have you taken advantage of to help you transfer?
transfer programs by the UCs, the transfer center + honors program
3) How were your instructors at the community college?
i would say 1/2 of them were good. some are on medication, no i m not kidding. Then there are afew that are like really enthusiastic about what they teach, i love those instructors. i think its just my luck with the instructors but i’ve had my great share of weird ones
4) How were the students surrounding you at the community college?
if you are a smart student, you’ll get to know many, but most that surround you only want to take advantage of your h.w, notes, ask for study sessions and expect you to do everything during those sessions. pick your friends wisely
5) What would you have done if you didn’t attend a CC?
start a business? or stay home and sleep. who knows
6) What school will you attend this fall?
this fall? next fall? next fall hopefully i get into Cal. hopefully
7) Any additional comments?
don’t expect life long friends in a CC if your priority is to transfer. you’ll be disappointed. just focus on what you are there to do and get it over with.

I might as well join the trend:

1) Was your experience at the Community College a positive or negative one? Please describe.

I have mixed feelings. My first semester in CC was a great experience. But, I think this can be attributed to the fresh-out-of-high-school mentality --there was no longer any pointless busy-work which was crammed down my throat ad nauseum in HS. But, the following semesters led me into an academic isolation. All I cared about was getting A+'s, even a 96% wasn’t good enough. It all depends upon your outlook, really.

2) What resources have you taken advantage of to help you transfer?

Like everyone else, Assist.org. Though, since the summer prior to my enrollment I was in constant communication with a particularly competent counselor, who was recommended to me by my High School counselor. That is not to say, of course, that there aren’t inept variations thereof.

3) How were your instructors at the community college?

Surprisingly excellent. Nearly all of my professors (~80%) have their PHD’s, and ~75% of my Political Science professors have both a PHD and JD. This may be due to the area I live, or the prominent CSU which is located within a few miles, where many profs teach in conjunction with my CCC.

4) How were the students surrounding you at the community college?

The quintessence of mediocrity. I do not mean to sound pretentious, but it can get pretty bad at times. There have been many occasions (more than 4 I can remember) where I was the only person to score above an A on an exam. Also, it can be hard to find someone to carry on an intellectual conversation with; though they do exist, just not in very high numbers.

5) What would you have done if you didn’t attend a CC?

Get a job somewhere in Europe, and slowly fade into obscurity.

6) What school will you attend this fall?

If all goes according to plan UCB.

7) Any additional comments?

Attending a community college has had its roses. They are just a bit cryptic. The proximity to your instructors is excellent, I find myself constantly holding substantive conversations with my professors after class, sometimes up to an hour. If you truly want to succeed you will, but if you don’t put the effort in you will not. It is really a sink or swim situation. I would not expect to have your hand held, at least this is the case at my CCC. And finally, CCC provides a great second chance if you did not do well in High School; do the work and you will be surprised what opportunities present themselves.

Were those of you who got accepted into UCLA and Berkeley in the Scholars Program or TAP?

I just signed up for a Winter intersession class with a professor that has four ratings… do you think that’s bad? His ratings are mainly good, but I will want to get an A in the class… should I sign up with someone that has more ratings..

1) Was your experience at the Community College a positive or negative one? Please describe.
Positive, I owned that place up son

2) What resources have you taken advantage of to help you transfer?
Financial Aid. Free education ftw amirite?

3) How were your instructors at the community college?
Easyyyyyyyyyyyy
4) How were the students surrounding you at the community college?
The pwned as well

5) What would you have done if you didn’t attend a CC?
Be a grave differ

6) What school will you attend this fall?
Cal

7) Any additional comments?
lostincode is my hero and i hope sauronvoldemort never comes back

@usdenick
you could get a rating 5 professor but if u are not willing to work
u won’t get an A
i ace professors with 3.3 ratings and above.
seriously don’t freak out
rating of 4 is good enough
some people who post on there are just haters. period

usdenick,

I fret over this stuff to. My rules are the following:
-Don’t take a classe below 3.0 rating, preferably higher.
-Make sure his reviews are recent - 2007. Teachers change over time, you don’t want to go off of a 2005 rating.
-Make sure they have 5 or more reviews.

If you’re still having problems deciding you can just go to one of his/her classes - wait outside - and talk to a student for a minute or two.

EDIT: I just remembered, my-space has a rating system too (I never knew that) - you can check on there as well.

Lol, my stats professor has a rating of 1.4, but I have a 97% in the class. Don’t base your schedule off ratemyprofessor.com.
