Your Chance to Easily Get Into CMU(Tepper)

I've been getting a lot of PM's about this so I'll just post it here for anyone who is interested.

Do you have lower grades and stats and want to go to a top 5 business school? You still can even with Tepper's recent 50% app increase by applying as an Econ student to HSS.
For the next year or two, use this loophole before it's too late for those who are interested.

09/26/05 - As a result of collaborative efforts between the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Tepper School of Business, the Undergraduate Economics Program will be jointly administered by both schools. All students whose primary major is economics will be students of and earn their degrees from both Tepper and HSS.

“This development reflects a strong desire that economics majors enjoy the full array of services and support of both schools,” said Dennis Epple, Thomas Lord Professor of Economics and economics program head. “This important and exciting change is designed to further improve the schools’ ability to meet the needs of current students majoring in economics, students electing to minor in the discipline and a possible expansion of the program in the future.”

In July, The Wall Street Journal reported that colleges and universities awarded 16,141 degrees to economics majors in the 2003 – 2004 academic year, up nearly 40 percent from five years earlier. The undergraduate economics program staff has been expanded to include Student Services Coordinator Carol Goldburg, PhD.

Among other responsibilities, Goldburg will serve as the primary academic advisor for all economics majors. In addition to Epple, she joins program director Patrick Sileo, associate teaching professor of economics; and Marian Lee, administrative program director.

The Undergraduate Economics and Undergraduate Business Programs will begin to work together to ensure that students are afforded a full range of opportunities and experiences provided by Tepper, including clubs, extracurricular activities and special events.

But what if you dont want to be an Econ student, but just a business marketing student? =/

Take the necessary 5 or so core econ classes and have all your electives be business marketing as well as a double major or minor in business marketing.

You still an econ major though, why double the work.. double major... eh, this is not really a good way unless a person really wants Economics

Did you not hear what I said. Its no extra coursework its just replacing electives with your double major's requirements.

No extra coursework, just don't fail out of classes. Also, you get the same internship and job opps so.. enjoy.

What if you want to be a finance student...?
Wait, so then is Tepper and Humanities and Social Sciences the same school?

No.....

Use this analogy:
Your and your mom both helped bring you into the world but is your mom and your dad the same person?

However, you'll get the prestige of both your mom and your dad.

You get to take finance courses (there is only a few). Even in Tepper, there is no finance major but only a track(concentration) in it.
