"Your decision is pending review"

Does everyone who apply’s EA and doesn’t get in get deferred? because I got deferred?

I don’t know. But how did you find out? Online or mail?

Mail, my online still says pending and we will have a decision by Dec 15

From what admissions says, the vast majority of EA/SCEA that do not get an offer are put into the RD pool. Not sure why they take that approach, but that is what they said a few days ago during the online chat, from what someone else reported.

tiredandanxious - If you really have changed your mind about Tulane, I would take the truthful approach and tell your adcom that at first you did it because the app was free and easy and it was a back-up plan, but now that you have looked into it you really are very interested in going. The key will be explaining what changed your mind. The more they like that answer, the more likely it is you will get a positive response. But do it quick!

Oh, well that sucks. I probably got deferred. I haven’t heard of anyone that got this message and got accepted…

so i shouldn’t feel special that I got deferred and not rejected?

tiredandanxious, what are your Stats

LOL, I guess not poc643. How much do you really want to go to Tulane? Is it one of your top choices, or just an alternative in case Syracuse doesn’t come through for you?

Just an alternative, I visited Tulane and it was ok. I applied mostly b/c my my cousin graduated there and she said she loved it, but it would be nice if Tulane was an option.

fallenchemist are you sure that would be a good idea? I’m composing the e-mail now and I’m a little hesitant. I wouldn’t want to annoy the admission counselor

poc643, there is someone in the other thread who said they got this message and was accepted. i hope this is true. how long did your application say pending before getting the letter?

My Stats:

SAT: 2240
800 M
710 CR
730 W
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.87 W
a couple APs, student government, a little volunteer

getmein12, can you post the link to that thread please

“pinkpig32:
getmein12- that message is normal. Once my application was complete, that message remained until I received my acceptance”

My application status changed to pending on Friday of last week and I got the letter Today so it was pretty fast

tiredandanxious, youve got really good scores and gpa, I really wouldn’t worry If tulane doesn’t accept you its their loss, and if for some reason you don’t get in I know youll get in somwhere great!

tiredandanxious - Very sure. If you showed little interest before, they have no way of knowing that you had a change of mind after you really looked into the school. They will understand that, it happens a lot, but they cannot read your mind. In fact, with your stats you are the typical student to get deferred and eventually waitlisted unless you show interest.

The key is explaining why Tulane has got your attention now, and convincing them there is a pretty good chance you will attend if accepted. You don’t have to promise that, they are not looking for assurance that you will go. But they do need to believe that you aren’t just throwing another application out there with no real intention of going.

fallenchemist- so sorry for such late reply…busy day! But her app was EA, submitted 11/14. Perhaps her supporting docs were not connected to the app in time? I know her teacher rec and counselor packets were sent to her EA schools a couple of weeks earlier…so who knows? I am going to just sit back, cross my fingers, and hope for the best. What’s meant to be will be. It’s all good! Thank you! You’re a great resource, and a wonderful ambassador for Tulane :-)

I will chime in here. This is a frustrating process. My DD had her EA application complete in mid-October but the message kept reading that Admissions was waiting for her guidance office documentation. Her guidance office had submitted everything electronically in early October so we just waited. The message didn’t change and so I called end of October and they apologized because they found the “missing” documentation and updated her file. The very next day Gibson updated to “Application Complete. The office is working…” and it has stayed the same until this morning when it updated to “Your decision is pending review We will try to get you a decision in just a few weeks, but you will receive an update on your admission status by Decenber 15th at the latest.” This is not easing our minds at all.

DD’s stats: 31 ACT, 4.76 W, 3.8 UW, Exec VP of SGA for 2 years, officer in NHS, other extracurriculars, some volunteer work.

Hey 2CarolinaGirls. I had a similar situation regarding documents. I sent my school forms, but they were listed as incomplete. I had them re-send. I finally called admissions, they found the missing file, and updated my status.
