Hey guys! I was wondering if you should use your personal email address on applications for summer programs or college applications. The thing is... My email address is something like wigglyarms@hotmail.com (not really my email, lol). It shows the quirky side of me, but at the same time, it might come off as immature O_o... What do you guys think?

Open up a new email account with your first name, last name, and (if necessary) year of birth. Your email address is not the place to show your quirkiness, especially to a college that is not looking for quirky.

Yeah, definitely make a more professional email that uses your real name and last name. It will seem very immature if you use your childhood email :))

Haha, alright. I do have a few other accounts I could use, so I guess I’ll start using them more often :P…

partyhardy247@drinkup.com really is a bad idea - follow the advice above.

Instead of opening new e-mail accounts, you may set up alias or forward groups for your e-mail account. You may delete those alias or forward groups afterward. The advantage is you do not need to check multiple accounts that you may overlook/miss some message.

twerkteam@bootyup.came

The forwarding idea is a good one. Personally, I use altomail, so I check multiple email accounts at once without going through the hassle of checking a every one. Check it out, it’s really neat, free, and takes like 2 seconds to set up.

Yeah use a different email for college stuff. After a while, I got kind of annoyed with all those college emails in my inbox anyway, so separation can be a good thing

I made a separate email for serious matters(including first name, last name, last two years of birth year), I still use my weird one for anything else.

Well, on my phone, my app lets me check all my mailboxes at the same time. It’s very convenient :)…

As others have said, get an email specifically for colleges. I have a personal one, one for my blog, one for business, one for school/college, and one for spam. My school/college one is 14[first initial][last name]@[school].org. (I graduated in 2014 hence the 14). My professional email is [last name][first initial][middle initial]@gmail

So… Should I use my school-issued email or my personal professional email?

The latter. Your school issued email will likely be deactivated upon graduation, and you will want to continue to get updates from the college you will be attending.

@skieurope Never thought about that O_o… Mine’s pretty much my full name with my state’s abbreviations… Something like this: johndoeca@johnwallmail.lel

@Newdle That works. You just want to avoid whimsical.

I’m not real comfortable with incorporating a birth year into an email address–it might be pathway to identity theft. Better to use a few random numbers.

My school-issued email address has my graduation year on it, so meh .____. … I don’t use it for anything outside of school, however.

My brother’s email was something like “<a href="mailto:comeatmebro93@gmail.com”>comeatmebro93@gmail.com"

i used my graduation year, 2014, in my college application email address plus my name.
