Hi everyone. I'm taking the GRE in a week and a half, and I'm wondering if my preparation is adequate. I have a few questions with the question types that people have encountered on the GRE:

Verbal: Has anyone ever had a test that was mostly analogies or antonyms? My vocabulary of really large words is my weakest point, and I would love to hear that people mostly had sentence completion or reading comprehension questions.

Math: Were actual question types similar to practice books in terms of content? Was the actual GRE harder/easier than the ETS GRE 10th edition? What content areas copletely surprised you? I am also confused about the following content areas on whether or not they would appear:

-complex probability (anything besides permutations or combinations, like P (A and B) or P (A or B), etc...)
-geometric series (finding the nth tem of a series)

Any help would be appreciated!

For the Verbal, my test was roughly the amount of analogies/antonyms/SCs/RCs that were in the ETS GRE 10th Ed. Meaning that, yeah, increase your vocabulary. Hell, even for SCs, a strong vocabulary is key.

For math, yeah the questions in ETS GRE 10th were similar to my GRE. I received no questions on complex probability or geometric series, and yet I received a 720. Heck, I ended up running out of time on the last question too and still got that 720 lol.

Your experience may differ though, I only took the GRE for the first time back on Wednesday.

@Colodia:

Thanks for the response. Did any questions show up in the math that were extremely difficult or foreign? And for the Verbal, was the length of the reading passages manageable?

Oh yeah, the length of the reading passages were totally manageable. I was able to read through them all with no worries about remaining time. I’ll admit though, I did far worse on the Verbal section than I anticipated (570 =/). They are roughly the same length as those on the ETS GRE Prepbook.

As for the math, no questions showed up that I had not studied already at one point or another on the ETS GRE 10th Prepbook.

There is a free practice GRE exam on ets.org- take it and see how is the experience for you.
