Your Favorite Books

I haven't read a single John Grisham book I didn't like.

I thought Of Mice and Men was pretty good, though we studied in school and that takes some of the life out of most books. I'd definitely like to read The Grapes of Wrath.

I had the same issue with Of Mice and Men. We read it in 7th grade, and I had this teacher that analyzed it to death. It got annoying very fast.

Grapes of Wrath wasn't too great. The southern accent got annoying fast. Also, the book develops rather slowly and the writing style's somewhat awkward. However, if you enjoy reading pages of descriptions and rambling, then this is the book for you! =)

SUP, i love john grisham's books!

I hated The Color Purple for the same reason. I hated the way the whole thing was written in the dialect of a poor black Southern girl. It was choppy and hard to understand. And it seems funny to me that Grapes of Wrath would have endless pages of descriptions. Steinbeck's writing has always seemed quite simple, not at all long and flowery.

Scarlet Letter, The Great Gatsby, War and Peace, Catch-22, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

In order beginning with my favorite:

On The Road - Jack Kerouac.
The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger
The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Less Than Zero - Brett Easton Ellis
Any of the Harry Potters between 3 and 6

I also really enjoy those thriller type books (I.E. The Da Vinci Code, anything by James Patterson, etc.)

You have good taste, Beat. I love Kerouac and Salinger. Have you ever read Franny and Zooey?

How did you guys get through Ayn Rand books?! I'm on page 20 or so of Atlas Shrugged and it's boring me to tears... and it doesn't help that theres 1000+ pages. I gave up on it for the moment.
