<p>BalletGirl---thanks for the reply. I am aware of the revealed preference study, but there is definitely a difference between that study and this thread. The main thing in the revealed preference is that it shows where one is more likely to choose to go to, and where people have preferred to go to most often. However, this thread is simply based on what people think of the colleges and which is their favorite, which is purely subjective. While revealed preference is somewhat similar, it is different in that many other things go into choosing what college to go to. For example, I love Brown and would go there if accepted, but if I got into all the other Ivies or cared about things like prestige or whatnot I might choose, say, Harvard instead. The point is that where I end up going is not necessarily my favorite college, although in many cases it is and ideally everyone should be able to go to the college they deem as their favorite, regardless of any other factors that might come into play. So maybe a ranking in this thread might produce a slightly different outcome than that of the revealed preference.</p>

<p>Well, as a freshman I applied to Harvard, Princeton, and Penn-Wharton. Now as a transfer applicant I'm applying Penn CAS and Cornell CAS.</p>
<p>When I first applied, I admit that I was driven mostly by name. Since then, I've looked into each a bit more, and would probably put the list as:</p>
<p>1) Penn
2) Princeton (but they don't take transfers)
3) Cornell
4) Yale
5) Harvard
6) Columbia
7) Brown
8) Dartmouth</p>
<p>Really, I have never had any serious interest in Columbia, Brown, or Dartmouth. As much as I like Brown's open curriculum, little else appeals to me, and I outright hate the school's political atmosphere.</p>

<p>Okay...since I decided that I have way too much free time on my hands, I added up everyone rankings based on the system I described in my previous post. Basically, the number 1 school gets 1 pt, number 2 gets 2 pts, etc. If a person only cites one school, that school gets 1 pt and the rest get 2 pts. Easy enough. So I added up everyone's rankings and came up with the following, with total points in parentheses:</p>

<p>The school with the lowest points gets the no.1 ranking because, the higher it is placed on one person's ranking, the lower the number of points that school gets. These results only include everyone's replies through gprime. If anyone doubts that I actually did something wrong here or skewed the data, here is the actual data, with the last number being the total number of points:</p>

<p>Interesting results, I think. Though this is a fairly small sample, I'm surprised that Yale is this popular so far, no offense to Yale of course, but there's a huge gap between #1 Yale (106 pts.) and #2 Brown (119 pts.). Yale seems to be way ahead of the pack so far. Brown, Princeton, and Harvard are all very close to one another in terms of points at slots 2,3, and 4. Columbia, Dartmouth, and Penn are also very close to each other at slots 5, 6, and 7. Cornell has 154 pts (14 pts behind Penn) at slot 8.</p>
<p>Again, this is completely subjective. If you're not interested, don't reply. I'm not trying to fuel any fires here. Just trying to have some fun and see how much people actually like each Ivy. I'll update these numbers periodically.</p>

They only changed the rankings slightly, with Brown and Princeton now being tied for 2nd and Dartmouth and Columbia switching places.
