Your favorite New Orleans restaurant

as a chef, this is one of the best questiosn I have seen on CC since joining. My favorites.

stella, mondo, galatoires, gautreau’s, herbsaint, la petite grocery, these are all fine, very good places. i’ve been to 3 of the 6 listed above, but regardless, they all have great reputations.

Lilette. This is like being in Paris, at a top notch corner bistro. I had a great, great meal here.

Brigtsens. Louisiana style food, from a classically trained chef. This is the way southern food was meant to be. I know the chef, and think highly of him.

Clancy’s, this is a cool, cool restaurant. I love the look of the place. It’s just the pefect sort of neighborhood joint, that has legit food. This might be my favorite place in town, depending on my mood. I had a soft shell crab and a filet last time, and my god was it amazing. I’d love to be there right now.

Restaurant August. Chef John Besh, a real heavy hitter. The food here is executed so, so well here. Food here rivals the best of the new fine dining
spots of LA and NYC

Last, but certainly not least. The winner. The prize, and the best of New Orleans…

Cochon , . WOW, WOW, WOW. Talk about Cajun PERFECTION. WOW.
This is the best food/restaurant in the south, hands down. it’s a legit 4 star, no doubt about it.

The owner of Cochon also owns a few other spots. Herbsaint, which is also on the list. the other one is BUTCHER.

Butcher is my second favorite spot in New Orleans. This is a real butcher, sandwich shop, and wine bar rolled into one. This is as good a sandwich you will eat, hands down. Without question the best grab n go, or quick eats place you will find in the south. Probably one of the very best in the country.

Adding others we really enjoyed:

Upperline
Dick & Jennys

And whats the po boy place on a corner on Magazine St??

And an Italian place on Esplanade? (cant recall the names)

I like most of those listed, but I would add Peche in the Warehouse District, Domolise’s Po-Boys, Dragos (the charbroiled oysters are amazing) in Metairie, Boucherie (one of NOLA’s best, Garden District), Coulis (amazing breakfast), Squeal BBQ (the squeal pie must be sampled), and for great after midnight bar food, Down the Hatch.

I get Drago’s grilled oysters every time I visit Nola. But usually their downtown Hilton location.

The best thing I ever ate.

We just tried Cochon for the first time. Good, but didn’t live up to all the superlative press that place gets.

Sorry to hear that about Cochon, we’ve had excellent meals every time we’ve been there. Eve Cochon Butcher is very good.
