So I've been into paradoxes lately. What's your personal favorite? If you don't know one, here's a list: www.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Paradoxes

Can God create a stone he cannot lift?

Grisham’s is my favorite.

My next favorite is the grandfather paradox.

I thought this was interesting

^ 'tis.

10char.

Drake paradox

If the universe is so big and there are aliens, then where are they and why aren’t they here?

^ I don’t understand that paradox at all.

So because we haven’t ventured outside our own solar system (really, we personally haven’t made it past the moon), that means that we don’t exist? What if aliens are at the same level of technology we are?

Stupid, stupid paradox IMO.

Oh, and PS, who says they aren’t here?
Our government? What about the other governments in the world that have admitted to seeing UFOs and alien life?

Examples pl0x.

but the aliens, what if they have advanced past us? The universe is old. Shouldn’t they come to us? Shouldn’t we even be able to detect them?

UK, China, France, and Russia (IIRC) are the big ones who have admitted to UFOs being real.

Takes time (both the coming and the detection). I’d give it a few more millennia before we should start to consider the predicted abundance of alien life and the apparent lack of alien life to be any significant contradiction.

Why should they? We are an insignificant planet in an insignificant solar system.

I ask again- we have not been outside of our own orbit, basically. Does that mean we do not exist?

Ok, I guess it’s time to come clean. Everybody in your life is simulated as you are in a dream; we are actually robot dinosaurs who are monitoring your dream (what you think is your “life”). We will probably terminate your dream sequence (your “life”) at age 69 (using your dream’s society’s notion of age).

Have a good day,

Your dream monitoring aliens.

@Sandwich-

I was watching something on the Science channel I believe yesterday that said that we were really like the Sims, a life simulation. The “evidence” was that when you keep breaking down matter, it turns into pixelations.

I thought it was interesting.

I wouldn’t let my Sims have such existential thoughts, nor would I have my screen resolution set so low!

look it up on wikipedia its interesting.

Possible explanations

No other intelligent species

Too short lived to advance

Nature destroys it

The universe is too big

Its not worth it to contact other ETs, so they dont

We are a zoo or an experiment

They are already here, watching us

One quote I like “Or perhaps any information humanity might provide would appear elementary, and thus they do not try to communicate, any more than human beings attempt to talk to ants — even though we do ascribe a form of intelligence to them.”

Also I think I derailed the thread.
Also the game.

Schrödinger’s Cat
if you watch the big bang theory then you probably know what it is.

Basically if there is a cat in a box, and a poison vile could be triggered and might not be triggered, then you must think of the cat as both dead and alive until you open it and see.

[Schrödinger’s cat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Schrödinger's cat - Wikipedia)

^^ I was merely going by the paradox that you listed.

7 is probably true; there is no way Michael Jordan is a human being.
